Hey everyone,
Firstly, a bit of background. I've got an AUIII XR6 VCT that recently had the speedo and odometer stop working, but otherwise was working well. I sent it off for overhaul and it's unsalvageable. :( I don't have my old one in my possession at the moment for testing purposes unfortunately. I bought a series 2 low spec cluster to test whether the issue was speed sender, wiring or cluster (the car is pretty highly modified) it and the speedo worked, but everything else was all over the shop. I've now picked up a series 2 XR6 cluster (couldn't find a series 3 one) and the speedo and odometer are working but the tacho has stopped, oil light is on, coolant temp light is on; but the coolant, oil pressure, volts and speedo are all working. So to my actual question, is there a wiring difference in the clusters between the series 2 and 3 that I needed to know about? Or am I likely going to be chasing deeper to find the issue? |

Hi Mad, sorry, never got an email about your response.
Yeah, the cluster had been fiddled with by someone before I owned the car, some cracked internal plastics and what not. They weren't prepared to warrant their work on it, and not prepared to do work they aren't comfortable to warrant, given the unknown history, so disappointing, but fully understandable. I ended up resolving the issue on the cluster, I found a loose wire while I was initially fault finding on the speedo problem that according to the wiring diagram I had looked as though it was meant to be the idle up for aircon on wire, but when I put a jumper on it, all the warning lights cleared up and the tacho is working. No idea what it actually was, but happy enough to know that it now works. Phew!! Oh and to my original question, no, no differences between a series 2 and series 3 XR6 cluster as far as wiring is concerned. Ha ha. |
