Better off with a 6R80, cause you can buy an adaptor to fit it to a Windsor, and you can also buy trans controllers for them.
I don't know if what works for a 6R80 will work for a ZF, because there are differences between them. I'd take a quess and say the adaptor will work, but the trans controller might not. Wouldn't bother with a BTR, that loooooong first gear sucks. |

I can remember working on a old XY that had a AOD in it, I don't know how good it was as we were only fitting extractors and a exhaust to it, it looked like a simple conversion without the worry of electronics
A quick google found this https://www.whichcar.com.au/features...classic-ford-1 |

AOD's are a bit pox. And they get fried if they aren't adjusted right. Something to do with a cable or something.

AOD is an FMX with an OD in a aluminium housing. The early ones are non electronic, later ones are AODE. They are a very popular mod with hot rodders. Try a few of the Hot Rod parts importers and ask around.
A 2011-2014 6R80 from a 5.0L F150 has some of the same bolt pattern as a SBF. You will need an adapter to achieve bolt up. The commercial adapters are average. Another problem is the starter position, they use the adapter to mount the starter and tell you to just cut a chunk out of the side of the gear box to clear the snout. The Quick6 computer is the go as far as getting it to work. However, modern boxes need the engine to detorque when they are changing gears. So you need your engine to be able to respond to the detorque signal or you'll fry the box. An AOD would probably end up being about 70% cheaper all up. |

At AFF Heathcote I was crossing the line and just changing into second gear at around 120km/h when I put my EF down the track
I wonder how fast it would have gone in reverse and if it would have ran a faster time You could get a 4L60E and get it built pretty cheap, if you don't like that first gear in the BTR, plenty available because they're in all the Commodores, there's also trans controllers for them, they stand up behind stock and lightly modified LS1s though so it'd probably be fine if the Falcon isn't some fire breathing monster. 4L80E is a hell of a lot stronger, however rare as rocking horse **** in Australia. There's an adaptor for one to suit Windsor: https://dellowconversions.com.au/pro...60e-automatic/ Here's the standalone trans controller for 4L60E/4L80E: https://www.shiftkits.com.au/shop/gm...on-controller/ You also need to give it the following sensors: Quote:

Sorry if we seemed discouraging, but you did say without any mods.... any electronically controlled auto is going to mean adding more wiring than your car already has!

Well, I guess we could keep it simple - 5/6sp manual? No electronics needed for that one
There's a 700R4 in the VN/VP Commodore/VQ Statto, its a non electronic version of the 4L60E, might be harder to find these days though. Plus adaptor kits to suit Windsor: https://www.rodshop.com.au/adaptor-p...glide-v8-gm-t3 Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 07-04-2023 at 02:10 PM. |

Would be easier to change the diff ratio for a better economy and cruising RPM, if that's what you are after.

So thank you everyone. |

Your performance / economy balance would probably be good with a diff ratio in the 3.23 3.27 range or there abouts.
