The Maverick is probably the modern equivalent, being car based and unibody. Not so much in size and engine capacity though.

Ford USA is fully stretched trying to build all the vehicles it currently has, a C2 based 2-door
car based pickup is a work of fiction and hard to justify at the moment.

Wishful thinking about the “Ranchero” talk probably developed from internet chat regarding
the possibly of Maverick being sold in South America as a cheap single cab version.
