Perhaps the biggest drawback of all is cost. Solid-state batteries not only require higher densities of rare metals, but their construction technique is wholly different from that of today's lithium-ion cells

I'm rehashing old decisions and probably sour grapes as well however when Ford dropped Crown Vic/Town car why didn't they leverage Falcon/LWB as a replacement, why not use Territory as the basis for Edge or Explorer.

Yes it's exciting times, Ford aren't the Lone Ranger there's a lot of companies in the race , with Ford saying not before 2030 that's a lot of water to flow under the bridge......the race is on

Mate, they've been saying this about battery technology for so many years that it now means nothing. "Oh but guys, this new battery technology is coming, I'm telling you, and it's going to have way more power density, it will change the whole automotive industry for ever".

It's not going to be 4x the power density, that's just fairy tales. Until it happens, it's all bogus, the same has been said since over 20 years ago...
