leaving hospitality questions and advice

hi everyone

am ok just reaching out.

was just wondering how people know and what they experience to know when it may be time to leave job (close that chapter) and move onto another (start the next chapter).

many of you lot know that am at some point wanting to give up hospitality and move onto other things while still capable and be own boss.

sometimes things happen or dont go how you expect and you tell yourself not much longer or something else and to just try and hang on.

will very likely be giving up hospitality as soon as it sells or closes as have other commitments and responsibilities and other work goals and feel after 14 years. nearly 15 that its time to take a break and move on and concentrate on those.

grandparents are needing help and needing to be able to help when needed and have local bingo commitments and want to do other work.

also the boss brews alcohol in her shop and other friends try it and miss out and feel brewing your own is only way and that am going to have to spend money that dont really have at moment to buy own kits and gear and supplies.

how do you find friends to share contents with and a place if you dont have your own place just yet without continually booking cabins (still book one maybe every few months but if its every week or fortnight costs add up).

what could you do to find the money.

just trying to hang on until place sells or closes and you keep telling yourself probably wont be much longer and to just hang on.

do feel positive that the other work is going to work out great however could be like a cousin with his shed building business and take a while to pick up.

sometimes you feel a little left out.

what could you do.

when you look up in google clues that a employee is about to leave or is thinking of leaving some sites list getting new certificates and education as one clue.

why would that be a clue when sometimes you can get further education and certificates to benefit your current job or other commitments, because of that you wouldnt think its always a clue.

Want to get out hospitality with the long hours and hard work and into something else and and have life and weekends back have been for quite a while and just trying to hang on but sometimes don’t think am able to

I can only speak for myself and my circumstances, after all I'm just another bloke on the internet.
If I've woken up every day for a month and thought to myself **** this I'm over my job I leave. Rarely have I had another job to go to but I'll give a months notice and start looking.
I've never been unemployed for more than 7 days, I've have mainly got new jobs in my trade and skill set.
A couple of times I've gone with something different and signed up with an employment agency. Its a great way to gain some experience out of your skill set.
I've been sent to unload sea containers, drive trucks, work in factories and laboratories I even got sent out to do smell tests around a local tip.
It paid the bills in the meantime and I made some life long friends doing it.

As Above try different things, the more you know the more attractive you are to a future employer

Apply for everything, even if you don't think you are going to get it, you might be surprised at what jobs are out there.

I had a friend leave his dead end job, he snagged a job with some mining related company, they helicopter him out to remote places and drop him off for the day, he collects tree leaves and soil then GPS marks the bags (something to do with minerals in the leaves or something that show them where they could mine), he finds a shady spot and sits under a tree playing his Nintendo until the helicopter comes back, he is on $175,000+ a year and only works half of it, not my cup of tea but he seems to love the peace and quiet he gets.

There is never a right or wrong time to move on, If you don't enjoy what you are doing, then why are you beating yourself up, move on and experience different things, you will eventually find your groove.

How did you people know and experience to know when it’s time to move on.

Might only have a month or 2 until closure and just hanging on but was planning this xmas holidays to be last one anyway

Will be closing that chapter the minute move out stage is finished, it’s time to take a break and concentrate on other commitments and responsibilities and goals

is there some redundancy money headed your way if you hang on til the end? if so, 1-2 months isnt long to stick it out.
