Ok, so the time has come for me to shed this soul destroying job of mine and find a new one – one where hopefully – I actually get to do some work!

I have been doing the rounds of the job vacancies and have sent a few applications away today and it get me thinking about what other peoples letters are like compared to mine..

I thought this thread could be used to share information on the little tricks on preparing your resume, cover letter etc.

Also for any employers out there - perhaps you could share with us what you look for, what stands out and what makes you pick one person over another.

Also I have thought about trying to break into the government sector and was wondering how others have achieved this and what to expect if I do make it to interview.

Well if it is any help for you Tori.. that cover letter you prepared for me was apparently the best that woman at the job interview the other week had seen in ages.:

I always look for an employee that will turn up to work, and if they dont, they contact you and let you know.....I have found that hard to find....

What kinda field are you after? I think different fields look for different qualities. Last job interview I went for, they were looking for:

- ability to think independently
- leadership
- logical thinking
- problem solving skills
- followship
- confidence (this is a big one. No one wants someone who isnt sure of themselves.)

There are many options for assistance when seeking employment.

The most important advice that I could give is to be yourself at the interview.

Don't try and second guess what they are looking for and try to pass yourself off as that. If you do, the job may not suit you and before long you'll be looking again.

Be yourself and you'll find a job that suits you
