I would be keen to know as well. Anything between Forster and Brisbane would be good to know about.
Heading up for Qld 'All Ford Day', and would love to trawl through some wrecking yards while I am up there. Used to love the old 'Pick N Payless' style wreckers. I know there is one in Dapto, south of Wollongong, but that does not help you much, but it's the only one I know of. https://daptopickapart.com.au EDIT : Just looking at their web site it appears they stopped doing 'Pick your own Parts', it says not open to general public and full service wrecking yard. I was there only a few weeks ago and got a whole AC system for one of my projects that I removed myself. I bet some princess got a splinter and put in a claim or the insurance just got too much.

Dapto is finished. It’s full service now, less the happy ending.

So annoying, I was there a few weeks ago, I love this style wrecking yards. Pick and Pay Less Blacktown was a regular week end outing when I was living in Sydney. Dunker's wreckers in Prairievale was very popular in the 90's.

Having owned a wrecking yard myself I can understand why they are dissapearing.
I used to let people pull their own parts only to be dissapointed at what they threw over the fence or destroyed in the process of getting a part off, put that with trying to find descent stock thanks to the scrap car dealers pretty much crushing everything they come across, this pushes the price up of good stock to wreck, time wasters, break ins etc, then all the garbage licences, dealer squad, EPA checks, insurances and overheads all take their toll, not to mention the 1000's of different makes and models you cant stock em all. Then having to compete with eBay, Gumtree, Facebook and the like, its not a great business to be in any more like it used to be. Enjoy these pick the part yourself places while you can as its not sustainable for the operator unless he owns the land and the stock is free. |

In no particular order:
Blue Auto Parts 73 Factory Rd, Oxley 4075 Cyrus Auto Parts 180 Sherbrooke Rd Willawong 4110 Archerfield AP 64 Bowhill Rd Willawong 4110 Logan City Wrecking 181 Queens Rd Kingston 4114 Ezy Auto Wreckers 180 North Rd Woodridge 4114 Jet Car Removals (C7) 20 Bonemill Rd Runcorn 4113 A1 Global Auto Parts 84 King Ave Willawong 4110 There are a heap of wreckers in Willawong. I would start there. King Ave, Bowhill Rd and Sherbrooke Road. Most are self service but some are not. There are many many more but that should get you started. |

Hi Guys,
when i was 21 years of age Long long ago i was given my sisters 1964 Chev belair and the first thing a young guys does is go looking for parts and to make the motor go faster. There used to be a self serve wreckers out on the Northern Road on your way to Windsor. I went out there a number of times and took my tools as he had two Chev belairs out on his yard. he would say to me " Steal anything and i will punch your head in and then say enjoy your self". I would get what i wanted and pay for it at the counter and then leave. I would love to know if that wreckers is still at the same place? cheers |
