After more than half a century, the last Boeing 747 (freighter) rolled out of the Washington State Everett factory on Tuesday 6th December.

https://www.npr.org/2022/12/08/11415...dn't%20win.

One macabre stat that accompanied an article i read on the above was...

"As of 2020, 61 Boeing 747s have been lost in accidents and incidents, in which a total of 3,722 people have died".....cheerful

Terrible news coming out of the gold Coast after two helicopters operating at Sea World collided mid air. Four dead with a further three in critical condition.

The footage of the collision is pretty confronting. As is the condition of the cockpit of the helicopter that was able to land after the collision.

Will be very interesting to see what the ATSB find in their investigation.

This might be of interest to those still playing the game.

Virgin Orbit 747 (Cosmic Girl), presumably fitted with the LauncherOne, which is due to make the first launch of a satellite from UK territory this month, according to wikipedia. Could be this mission.

Edit: looks like it is the launch sortie

Thanks for the share, RW. Love B1s, probs my favourite aircraft of all time. Such sleek lines. Such a shame to see them end up on the chopping block.

If you ever get to the USA, and you're aeronautically inclined, you must visit the Dayton Airforce Mueseum (or whatever it's called nowadays)

I made the mistake of thinking it would take a day

We walked through most of one hanger in the day we had planned to be there.
I mean, you only need one day at a museum right?

Well, They had four hangers....

Space shuttle, X-15, SR-71, you name it, all in the one hanger we walked through...
For an aussie it was unbelievable in size and scope, a true testament to engineering.

Didn't see three of the hangers , (and 1 was out of limits as they were preparing for a presidential dinner within)..., It really was unbelievably good.

Following on from the above, Altas Air have taken delivery of the last 747 and have performed a special flight from Everett to Cincinnati, painting a celebratory path for the Queen of the Skies on the way through. Here's the aircraft track. I'll see if I can upload a closer image of the path she painted on her way.

And the screenshot for those who aren't interested in chasing it through Fr24 now that the flight is over.

Thought this was a fascinating story on the B29 Superfortress (Kee bird) abandoned on the ice in Greenland during the cold war.

Interesting story, one I never heard of.

Thought FoxtrotGolfXray and yanknbank might appreciate these pictures, freshly stolen from FB.

Scenes show fighter being towed back to Williamstown Airbase after the pilot was forced to make a emergency landing on Tomago rd north of Newcastle.

lots of traffic stuck behind the operation.

Spotted this down the Rocks this morn.

HM King Charles on his way to Aus.

Interestingly, ADSB Exchange shows another Aus A330 MRTT following closely. I suspect the entourage.

Soz, just saw this post RW. Thanks for sharing!

There's more info available on pprune, including links to a youtube vid and some more pics.

https://www.pprune.org/pacific-gener...-airstrip.html

A little of topic, but I have some pics of my old man and his colleagues on the flightline maintenance on Mirages in Butterworth from around 1975. Amazing to see the lack of ppe back then! Shorts, socks and boots was all that was required, out in the heat and sun

Yes thank extra bit of interesting information.

I remember the original airfield as it falls in the Hunter Water Catchment.
This area is off limits to the general public but we managed to get approval to mountain bike there.

The permit allows you to ride behind the current Williamtown RAAF base all the way through their bombing range (on demand) and as far as Lemon Tree Passage.
Fascinating place it is.

btw my current PPE is the same, shorts, socks and boots.
