How will we keep our cars clean from 13th of June, when no hoses are to be used at all!! If anyone suggests those auto car wash places (that don't clean the bottom half of the car)..I will laugh at them. Things are getting serious in Brisbane. It would be sad not to have a clean car!

I remember back when I was in Brizzy a few months agp, there was a really good article in the paper explaining how, following the council's reasoning by using a bucket to rinse of your car, you actually use more water then with a hose, which makes perfect sense when you think about it.

I love places like carlovers where you can wash your car using their recycled water.
If only Brisbane would allow the use of grey water for outdoor purposes.

As long as people remember why this has happened. Pine Rivers has probably the lowest amount of water and the highest amount of growth. Remember people, we are not wasteful or irresponsible....there are just thousands more of us. It comes down to the council ignoring the warning signs years ago.

Again, its only partially to do with the fact that it doesn't rain much and more to do with the increased population.

Well your lucky youve been able to use water for this long, Central Coast water is FUBAR. We've been under level 2a (or b i cant remember) for about two years now and level 3 arent that far off. And what is our councils grand solution, buy more water of newcastle (which has more water than they know what do with), despit massive depelopment (population to double in 20 years) so were buggered and im especially cheesed because i only live 500m from the border of Lake Macquarie council who has no restrictions.
Anyhow i usually just doing with a hose using the minimum water possible using trigger hose on the lawn, and I only do it when it neccesary which isnt to often because its garaged. But I do feel for the people who live around me 2 major powerstations = a very dirty car. Anyhow, I really think Australia needs a major wakeup call with water and personally i think water should be under state control, councils just dont have the dosh for the right infrastructure, though im always suspicious of the motives of the NSW government who tend to think NSW ends at Hornsby.

Guys you think you've got it tough...Goulbourn(sp) NSW has cat 5 restrictions there is no water in the supply dam...they're trucking it in.
So to all those that think its smart to use water by stealth....wait till it stops and you can't shower etc unless its trucked in or bought from the supermarket. This is a very serious time and the more we do now to conserve and bolster whats left the more chance you have of not paying $10.00 a litre at the shop.

Its all the mexicans moving north.... I think i read somewhere that Qld will overtake Victoria as the 2nd most populated State with in 10 years. People with white cars will rule the world though soon.... Cant see them showing the dirt so bad... my Dark blue focus only has to be sneezed on to look dirty... particularly brake dust... GRrr ;) |

And aquifer and bore water are also on the endangered list...they too will run out if there is no rain.

the problem is a. society and b. the council /govt
a. Society wont accept recycling sewage water into clean drinking water. b. they should have some fore sight for the future and build infastructure to accomodate the future needs of a city/town. we are really heading down a scary path of not having anything left to live off. |

Simple answer is - we wont be washing cars anymore.
My neighbour got up me 12 months ago for washing mine, he thought it was illegal then lol.. Ill just take mine to my mates at Ford and get them to wash it if i get desperate enough, they have a permit to continue washing cars regardless so yeh, I think theres going to be some dirty cars around shortly! Detailers and car washing people like at the shopping centers will also still be able to clean cars as they make a living out of it, id say their business will be booming but at the same time Id say their water costs may go up to as the council will push hard to deter extensive use of water in these times.

there is a karcher washer that can be used from a bucket
the bucket i think is available thru meguiars.. so you fill the bucket then you attach the washer to the fitting and hey presto i also heard that bore water etc was bad for washing your car due to the minerals in it?? any truth?

Three years ago we were in the grips of a drought too and the council were copping a fair pizzling about it. Facts were that we had a new dam almost online but no rain to fill it. Council had actually been planning and such new dam for twenty years since the last one had only just been finished. During a tight time council allowed washing cars by bucket BUT you were allowed to rince by hose and only if your hose had an auto trigger on the end. Council had years before started a trial of reclaimed water with plans to extend and now 3 years on we have two near full dams, reclaimed water pipes laid throughout the town in certain areas and a squillion dollar recycling plant being built and near completion. Cableing for fibre optics were also laid at the same time in some areas instead of having to redig. We still have a 10-4pm ban on watering gardens odds and evens which is very sensible but the whingers in the town want that lifted too, what cr4p. When our dam is overflowing please come and buy our water so we can benifit from better roads and infrastructure, we won't charge much. Honest.
