As it stated in the article, Delphi will move offshore. Retaining any business and trying to acquire any new contracts it can.

As bad as Ford US is doing, they are at least selling cars the Seppo's want, the 'Stang, various and sundry LWB models and those cursed Toorak tractors they call SUV's.

The British car industry was once all conquering. Powerful unions, lack of quality control etc saw their sharp demise, firstly at the hands of the Americans, followed by the Japanese.

Is history repeating itself???

The Japanese are and will take over and they probably already have no matter what the competition is....deal with it! As your sig says....such is life!!!

Hopefully Ford and GM might learn something from them to save themselves.

in the long term i'd tend to agree... the japanese are pretty damn good at everything when it comes to cars, except when it comes to designing them to look good.

I tend to disagree with that, true that a substantial portion of Japanese cars are bland and boring (the majority of that lot coming from Toyota) but there have been some really nice looking cars from Japan in recent times to match the quality. IMO I think the Accord Euro and the new Lexus IS look darn good not to mention the 350Z.

Remember the mid 90's when Nissan got taken over, and Ford gained control of Mazda.

The Accord Euro is a car for BMW tryhards. They should just sell BMW badges with them. lol

No - BMW try hards buy cheap BMWs - ie a luxury badge without luxury appointments. Someone buying an accord euro is buying the top of the tree in that sector. They are a great mid sized car, build quality is excellent (Honda usually craps all over aussie cars for build quality), dynamics are excellent and for what you get, its inexpensive.

Sounds like you have a bugbear against the japanese car industry ;)

Tend to agree. Mazda is leading there IMO, although their new crossover looks awkward.

Whether you like them or not its still a great car which is far better value than a 318i (and more reliable too) and only the most ignorant and narrow minded will keep saying otherwise. Credit where credits due.

The Japanese motor industry are in the position they are because they adapt quickly to changing trends and market requirements and most importantly they bolt thier cars together right the first time!!! Something the US and some European (incl Italy) manufacturers are oblivious to and the results are showing, even in thier home markets. They are on a roll and I can't see them slowing down.

1. Who's talking about classics here??? We're talking about the present!

2. How do you know which country I'm from? I could be from Germany, England, Japan, Thailand or even China, all of which far outproduce Italy in cars.

3. Good Luck to FIAT. When they make a car like Honda, Toyota or Mazda can, I'll be the first to congratulate them. (Unlike you I'm not filled with hate, just realism)

PS Question: Do you have a grudge against Asia? You seem to hate everything that comes from there.

true toyota is by far the biggest offender i think. there are some nice looking cars coming out of japan but from what ive seen there are still alot of fugly ones! to be fair though the US is probably alot worse!!

Fiat already do make cars as good if not batter than the Japanese makers.
Alfa Romeo and Maserati.

No i dont hate everything Asian, just japanese cars and ricers.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. I am certainly not convinced that any Italian manufacturer makes cars on par with Japan in terms of combined quality, efficiency and performance. If that were the case, then FIAT would not be in so much trouble as they are now.

FYI not all Japanese car drivers are ricers and not all ricers drive Japanese cars. I've seen riced up VWs, BMWs, and even a Alfa 147. I don't like ricers any more than you do, but don't paint all Japanese cars with the same brush just because you don't like them. Its just as bad as me saying all Commodore drivers are ****tank yobbos and that isn't fair to the majority of decent Commodore drivers.
