Default first car

hey fellas,..
getting my p's in 6 weeks,, bought my car today, did plan for xy ute,, but that idea quickly turned into a xl fairlane, haha
runs a 250 efi, power everything, was original owner, kept garaged its whole life, perfect nick, everything works, rwc, reg till august, not a stain on the interior (gonna change that ey fellas ;) haha,,
im not going to spend much money on her because as much as i love her she isnt my dream and have to keep saving, and not a real money maker the old zl, so im going to buy some rims, extractors, and posibly lower her, and exhaust if funding allows,,, and take the gay sun visor off the front hahah
ill try put some pics up, first time with pictures on here so lets see how that goes,
looking for suggestions on rims,, needs something to give it an edge, either pimped or a nice chrome 12 slotter or globe, only looking to spend around the $1000 mark though for wheels and tyres, so pimping on a budget lol.
even attach some pics if u want to add them in photoshop or somehting, cheers guys, ill keep u updated

Congratulations on buying the car mate

If it were mine i would get it lowered, and chuck some rims on it first.

And ofcoarse, that sunvisor has to come off lol

They are great cruisers i used to have one.

First thing to do is dump it they look like huge pimp mobiles that way.

Another great thing is that when you get sideways they take up almost 3 lanes! Looks impressive.

And the best thing is the room in the back. The girls will love it

Nice first car, mine was a 318 Valiant for christs sake. My brother in law had one of these for about 16 years and all he changed was the starter motor. They just keep on going and going.

Go the Digi dash and go the ZL Fairlane (looks like Atlantic Blue), there a nice car with enough features to keep you happy.

Just wish the tailight didnt look so crook (FD Tailights rock), but thats still a relatively nice car for a 16 year old.

I used to have a green one. Looking at that, I don't know why I sold it .

If you are looking to put wheels. Put a set of ltd alloys on it from the ZL model. I reckoin they look the best on the ZL, especially when you lower it. But don't put 12 slots on it. They don't suit the ZL one bit.

But its a nice buy, especially for a first car.

nice, definately lower it and some nice wheels.
i suggest some later model Fairlane wheels, not sure what model, but they are quite flat, but look pimpin when they are nicely polished.
stay away from 12 slotters PLEASE!!

hey since i cant make a decision on wheels, not 12 slotters though, i seen a few for sale with globes which look good, i i found some king springs super low springs for about $300 so that will be first project, after the sun visor lol, dont know about the pinstripes and side strips off because of the fact that is an original car and will possibly maintain value better. not sure though,, maybe after a month or 2 i will, ill keep you updated

Great car for your first car matey... your mum will feel you are quite safe in that.. (nice and strong)..
Oh and by the way.. there is nothing wrong with having your mum next to you.. take her cruising with you... even after you have your P's..

Be nice to your mum boys!!!!!!!

hey some new pics,, still just with camera phone, but i have put in new head unit and 6 inch speakers in the back, and taken that sun visor off of course, i have been driving her all the time and really happy with it. i think i am buying some 12 slotters for it i did some photoshop work with some and it looks good to me, i just need some more chrome and they are relatively cheap and will fit so it seems logical to me, anyway ill keep it updated

I know I may be a bit odd.. but I love the visors

Old skool pimping..

I went to huge efforts finding a visor for my HZ premier when I had it.

Nothing says PIMP like a visor and rear venetians

I've still got my zl, and while it's not my preferred car, I enjoy cruising in it. The 12 slotters look good and I personally like the digital dash. It is good to know that you are doing 63km/hr not something between 60 and 65! Like ph47 said, keep the visor. you don't have to have it fitted, but don't throw it away. one day it will come in handy.

yeh im definatley not throwing it away or selling it, its just gone into stoage for a bit, it was actually quite annoying because as you may know with the zl the drivers seat is quite high and i am quite a tallish person so it actually cut off a lot of my viewing area. but thanks for the advise on the 12 slotters

Thumbs up

Good choice for a first car.
Big enough to be safe if you come unstuck (It will happen) and for partying.
My folks had one when I 17 and I use to take it to parties all the time. Heaps of room in the back...

I don’t know what it is about the last of the X series Fords that attracts me to them. Very underrated IMO

nice ride, i think the 80's fairlanes and ltd's make awesome first cars.
oh and regarding coming unstuck, be careful in the wet, i was really surprised how easily mine understeered around roundabouts, and when i put the foot down they'll snap to oversteer doing extremely low speeds! thank the LSD diff

i bought this fd ltd for my first car also, i recommend you lower it before getting different wheels, it'll look an absolute crapload better - so much that suddenly you might think those wheels suit. there are a few pictures of my ltd floating around this site and then you'll see what i mean

im a real sucker for these cars i'll probably be keeping mine for life so long as i have the spare space for that
