Default Fuel gauge reading funny

Hey all
My AU1 XR8 hasent had a full tank of fuel for about 8 months. I usually only put $30-$40 in it. I filled it right up this week and now the gauge seems to be stuck on a bit over full , the D.T.E is still working though.
any ideas

I know with the AUII they had a recall because of the fuel sensors.. mine was replaced when I got mine and they ended up putting another dodgy one in before I took it back to get fixed. I'd put $20 in with a 1/4 tank and it would show full. Then when I was driving, I noticed the DTE reading was INCREASING. Check with your local dealer and see if the recall affected your car, I suppose.

I also notice when I REALLY fill mine up, the needle won't move from full for about 80-90km, then its all downhill from there.

You have the perfect car mate, a car that read's full all the time, lol., seriously though, have you tried disconnecting the battery, I allway's fill mine right up and the gauge stay's above full to 100odd klm's and then it move's.

Maybe it's frozen from the shock? LOL. When I read the title, I was expecting to see a picture with $$$ signs instead of E 1/4, 1/2, F, etc (something like $0 $25 $50 $100).

As other have said, mine doesn't move off full for about the first 100 either, but then the rest of the tank only lasts for a further 300km! Ford fuel guages have never been known for accuracy - it's almost like they are guessing how much fuel is left.

Spoke to ford the other day about this happening in my ute too
they said I could replace the sensor card on top of the fuel tank true but would be a waste of money as the most comman cause for the incorrect reading is due more likely to the connections into the card, they become loose or dirty or fowled and give false readings. They explained how to get to it in the ute for me and it sounds heaps harder then in the sedans.

This is normal functioning of the Fuel Guage .... it should start dropping around the 90-100km mark after driving ... if it is a lot more kms since filling and it still shows full ... then there may be an issue.

I have problems where my fuel gauge says Empty at all times now ... it's great ... thank goodness the LPG tanks have gauges on them that work.

I think my issues are to do with the instrument cluster fuel gauge ... as my senders and floats have been replaced ... and the cabling and connectors under the ute have been checked out and reported as working fine.
