This vid was lifted from the car show on Chanel 9 last week. Classic 1970's called "Rendevous" shot in the streets of Paris I believe using an equally classic Ferrari. Enjoy...LINK
A remake it the above video was done around 3 years ago called "The Run" using a Nissan 350Z...LINK

Here it is again, as the link doesnt work. And some information on the filmaker: Bit of On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur. No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit. The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets. Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground until a DVD release a few years ago. |

Its been concluded that the movie was a fake, its more than likely an Alpine 110 and wasnt really going that fast.

A former employer of mine had the Paris movie back in 1987 so it has been around a long time, he had it a long time before that.

It was dubbed using a private race track and one of Count Volpi's Ferrari 330P racers.
Similarly, Bullitt was dubbed using a GT40.

The pavers can still be seen after changing 4 gears....
That close to ground after 100 klms it should be just a blur but not in this case.... The clip is quite slow IMO....

Here some of my logic/physics for this case
Speed = Distance/time Now when he blasts past a car at full roar, it takes a rough time of 0.3 of a second to cover the car length from the camera perspective. Now giving a car length of 4m (generous) we get a speed of 13.33 m/s. Times by 3.6 (*60*60/1000) to get kph, we get a speed of 48kph. Just a bit slow for a ferrari at full roar At a 100 kph you cover 4 m in 0.144 seconds At 200kph you cover 4 m in 0.072 seconds If you want to argue about my logic, feel free to do so. Cheers |

Just looking at the White lines on the road - he changed 3 gears, and the white lines changed by about 1/20th of second difference between 2nd & 4th gear, so nah it's dubbed, with a slow car.

Also superroo, you have to add that speed you worked out to the speed of the other car. Maybe the other car was flying!! :-)

I'd rather have heard the 450SEL 6.9L than whatever they dubbed it over with.

Yeah, it's still great... but there's no way the soundtrack is coming from the car doing the driving - there are downchanges and blips that simply don't add up. And a Ferrari V12 at full song going up through the gears would be covering the ground FAR quicker than it does in that vid.
But still, a classic, and it's part of my DVD collection.

You have to keep it in context, it was a "Underground" film made by a mainstream film director in his spare time, and was debuted at Cannes Festival. Naturally there is some of the "Magic of Television" in it compared to raw underground vids that it spawned like the first Getaway in Stockholm or Ghost Rider.....
But then again, I'm the sort of Anorak that owns a book called "Into The Red" because it comes with a CD full of recordings of the cars in Nick Mason's collection (Pink Floyd Drummer), particularly the BRM V16
