i dont think they had different coloured variants of the grey

What do you reckon this wheel would look like with the S1 light grey airbag in the middle of it? I'm not thinking it would look too flash, as both pics appear to have the darker coloured airbag. The light probably would contrast too much with the darker leather of the wheel.

I painted it (the airbag) satin black using VHT vinyl spray.

i recently purchased the exact leather steering wheel with the blue inserts from black mac performance (wa) only cost me $185and i got the matching t-bar shifter for $80 but its all black. looks awesome feels even better cos its contoured but i have the "taxi" lite grey trim so i need to do something bout the airbag colour, wat was that interior black paint mentioned?? and does it look ok. plus u mite want to get them to fit it cos it has special heads on the screws holding the airbag they look like normal tamper proof torx bits but r not!!! as i found out luckily i knew some1 who knew some1 from a panelbeaters who actually had brought the tool.

T50 Torx bit for the centre nut to remove the steering wheel ... there are smaller ones behind the steering wheel to take the backing off as well ... but you can use allen keys for these as well.

To remove the Steering wheel, you need a special tool from Ford. It's unique, and you can't buy it from Supercheap or Repco etc.

Cost is ~$65.

No real point in buying it, as they should change it over for you, for about $40.

If you have trouble with the side screws try using a normal screwdriver bit that has the centre removed (looks like a 2 pronged fork!!!).I went to ford asking for a proper tool and they said they had no idea where to get one!!!

That's what I use, but they keep snapping.

You can get the torx plus bit from specialist tool shops (Gas weld etc), or from snap-on tools.

I did the wheel on our AUII Fairmont and know that those little Torx Bolts are not standard size! They require a bit that has only 5 points where a normal Torx bit has 6 and they have a raised centre point just to add to the struggle, and did I mention that the thread is slightly squashed to act at a further deterrent??

I ended up cheating and ground down some blade bits to fit, then replacing the bolts with standard 6mm bolts and loctite. Yeah, means that I have lost a once valuable anti theft device, but seeing that most AU’s have the funny Torx bolts a would be thief will assume the same.

I didn’t repaint the centre, and to be honest, you don’t notice after a while.

I got the wheel and matching auto gear selector from the local ford dealer for $240 the lot about 2 years ago.
