quite! at least they are recycling a bit. the whole 911 thing will always be in the minds of americans but unless you lost someone there or were there yourself, i dont think any AUstralian can understand/grasp the event. personally i get ****ed off now whenever i hear or see 911 cos the yanks shove it down our throats like it was the second coming of christ. i shouldnt get annoyed because many lost their lives and many more lost someone close to them, but its a marketing tool now.

Wow. Would never have expected that but i think it's a sound tribute.
I hope one day we can develop some of the the more desirable aspects of Amercia's patriotism.

Fair enough, they want the ship to have some sort of legacy/tradition.
Maybe when my AU dies (Im dreaming) ill get BHP and Ford to melt it down and make me a new BF.

How typically American.
Make the remains into a warship they can kill more people with. good idea. Worse still, be proud of the fact they are using the remains of the twin towers to build a weapon, and hint it will be used for revenge. Aside from that, good to see they are recycling i guess. |

Wonder if the ship will suffer the same fate as the twin towers? It'd be rather ironic wouldn't it?

I think this is an excellent thing to do. It is full of symbolism. The Americans are a very patriotic bunch. Good on them. They have suffered and if this is a way they can take some of the bad done and turn it in to something positive, a tool to defend themselves with, I congratulate them.
Too many people have a go at the yanks, it is easy to let the tall poppy syndrome set in. They do have some bad points, but they have also done a lot of good.

They're a overly patriotic bunch aren't they..... I bet they'll have that story on Entertainment tonight with Lisa Goibbons and Jon Chin.
I might just shut up now, besause I really don't have much nice to say about the 911 cr@p that they go on with. As was said before, Its become almost like a marketing thing. |

just that everyone should fear the USA government. Frankly when 911 happened like most i was shocked, and sad for those that died, but the BS that went on afterwards about the senseless lost of 3000 human lives, I almost vomited over the hypocrisy. Since then, they have killed many more than 3000 people. You kill 3000 american citizens and your a terroist, they kill XYZ,000 people and they are hero's and doing the world a favour. I disagree with there patriotism philosophy, whilst it is noble to be proud of your country, ask half of them were any well know city/country is out of usa and they can not answer. that’s not noble that’s just plain naive again can't really blame the citizens (well you can sort of), but there brain washed from an early age. THIS IS NOT A TALL POPPY thing, i am not bashing the adverage joe and so a monument shoud be placed there, for the families of the people that died, and for all the people that tryed to save them all, its only right. I am just so sick of the people that trust blindly the USA governent.. if/when WWW3 happens, don't fear the middle east, or the russians, it will all be by a 1/2 witted american president that ends it all.. or a 1/2 witted geelong au ute driver Last edited by ziggee; 02-06-2006 at 03:38 AM. |

As for blindly trusting governments, I would love you to name one government that has a shred of intergrity.. In relation to world war 3, I am like some, that are of the opinion that the cold war, kept this war from happening. The US, despite the unfairness of them already having nukes, are doing their best to try and stop nutters like the current Iranian president from obtaining them. He is a nutter. Whether or not you like the state of Israel, he has preached from day one, he wishes to wipe it off the map. I could sit here and type a ton of things the Americans have done wrong, then I could sit here and type a ton they have done right. One simple fact, despite what you may argue are their motives, they are willing to spill blood for their believes and to ensure others have a fair go. Even if it is their way. The day the Americans stop doing this, I fear, because who else could fill their shoes..............

U.S. MILITARY DEATHS IN IRAQ: 2471
U.S. MILITARY WOUNDED IN IRAQ: 17648 IRAQI CIVILIAN DEATHS (MINIMUM): 38059 Terrible how 9/11 killed so many people. Eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind. It's not hard to see why I don't like American's I guess, they're too patriotic to think for themselves. Good to see its being used for something constructive though. 7 tonnes of steel isn't much though from the towers I'd imagine. |

you shouldn't blame the army or civilians.... blame their government... they(army) are doing what they have to... otherwise they would be put in jail for something like AWOL.. going into iraq was a mistake..

Does an end justify a means? I mean, there's about 300,000 Iraqis buried across the country in 270 suspected mass graves (41 of which have been found thus far) from Saddam's rule... that's the US estimate... HRO puts the figure closer to 500,000. Iraqi insiders say its probably closer to 1,000,000. 180,000 kurds killed during the anfal up in the north... 60,000 shiites and kurds towards the end of the 91 war... Dont get me wrong. I would never attempt to justify the loss of US military, contactor, civilian and Iraqi citizen life... but the coalition's war is killing innocents at a much slower rate than a mad dictator was capable of....

Good on the Yanks. I hope they put the boat to good use, and blow the scumbag braniacs behind 911 to kingdom come, if some of their innocents fall - bad luck, it will teach them a lesson.
As for all the "experts" on here with opinions why Yanks should/should not be policing anywhere in the world, before you retire tonight in your warm bed after your cooked meal, remember there are groups of men and women around the world in law enforcement agencies and military that put their lives on the line every single day, so that you may have a restful night sleep in your warm bed, whilst my mates Troy and Ronny are over in Iraq pulling militia off naked children. Yes, raping kids. If half you people knew the human rights violations taking place around the world, you would view the americans differently. |
