That's the chance you take. But if you end up crashing into a Bugatti Veyron, through the National Australia Bank and wipe out six stop signs, three traffic lights and a fire hydrant; the excess would be well worth it.

What Rating are you on?
Whats Your Age?
What Suburb is the Car Parked at night?
Is it Parked in a Garage/Carport/Driveway/Street?
What year is you car?
What size are your rims?

These will all be helpfull so people can compare apples with apples.

The excess is there to get rid of annoying little claims or what the insurance company may think might be claimed - the higher the excess the less the risk the less the premium.

So may variables :

Without going into too much detail, I switched from NRMA (cheapest I could find) to Shannons and ended up paying slightly less. Getting new rims didn't add any extra to the premium or the excess.

I haven't done this, but was told if someone with a rating one is listed as one of the main drivers, you also pay for rating one. Apparantly then you can scrub their name off the premium after a year and keep the rating one.
