A few years back the ruskies were offering to take tourists to the edge of space in a mig for $19,000US. Well maybe it wasn't really the edge of space but high enough so you couldn't see blue anymore and could see the full curvature of space. Scary stuff...

Reckon F/A 18's are tough? Try strapping yourself into a Cessna 152 for aerobatics.

I'd love to get in a proper aerobatic plane and do some manouvres.. Stall turns etc, more skill.

That is awesome. I would love to go for a joy ride in one of those. My dad works for CASA (civil aviation safety authority) and I asked him if he could get me a ride in one. I highly doubt it though. If I did get a ride in one I would have to pay.

I thought he was going to choke on his ginger flavoured gum too.

Or a spitfire, or a sea fury, a corsair maybe.......

There are a couple of places where you can do this.... I think at caboolture airport in QLD, just north of Brissy, there is a Aussie wirraway and a Aussie built mustang.... I think that you can pay for ride with these guys. But not cheap. I think a mustand costs about $770 per hour to fly. And thats just cost. They would charge on top of that.....

Ever heard of the CA15.

My dad tells me that is costs $80000 per hour to run a F/A-18, so I would imagine a ride in one would be pretty expensive.

I actually think they use F1 11's to do the joy flights, i just read the sheet and it's only an hour althought i can't find exactly what jet they use. I was told it wa an F1 11.

Has anyone done this from either Williamstown or Mangalore airforce base.

Yep, a nice machine that is or was, I think we only built 1 prototype, crashed it, repaired it then scrapped it, a nice fast Aussie fighter.
I don't think there are joy flights in F111's or FA-18's in Australia, those USAF FA-18 pilots consider it mandatory to make their VIP passengers throw up!
cheers
Bill.

Reminds me off the episode of the crocadile hunter, when Steve Irwin was in a f-16.

On the other point, I remember a while back there was a guy running Mig 15 joy flights out of Sunshine Coast Airport and he did a flyby at the Caboolture Aircshow and goddmit it was fast, he covered the length of the runway in about 2/3 seconds. A joyride in it was only a cool $2000 an hour. I would absolutely love a ride (can never ever afford it), but flying anything is fun. I absolutely loved my instructional flying in the good old PA-38 Tomahawk (Bet you cant do 130 knots in your Falcon), I stopped just before my GFPT. Hopefully ill get around to getting my PPP soon.

**Oh yeah and the CA15 Kangaroo was Australia's beautiful laminar flow wing, RR Griffin powered fighter- It flew around 1947 and there are even rumours it broke the sound barrier. The upshot was the government stuffed around in it development too much it came too late and due to the end of the war and the advent of the Avon Sabre it was pointless. Ive acutally got a book on the whole thing originally it was supposed to be a P-47 type of plane, then a Mustang competitor, then they tried to turn it into a low level fighter again. And then finally into a high altidude fighter again after the american engine company (I cant remember which one) cancelled the engine they needed

*Useless History lesson

I was going to post this one up earlier from an e-mail I received, thinking it would be a repost. Looks like it isn't.

Whilst awaiting for the gum to go down the oesophagus, I was watching this guy's neck muscles and see how effective they were in holding the last of his consciousness together (not that that really mattered for much).
