Has anyone built a cobra kit in recent years. Just a few quick questions,
Where did you get your kit? What are your thoughts on post sales customer service? i.e. help and advice during build Did the final cost come roughly out at the original estimate? i.e. some kit sellers give a rough guide to build cost What was involved in the engineering process? Did the kit seller help you with engineering approval? What are your thoughts on the overall quality of the kit? Did your kit have a soft or hard top included in the purchase price? Did your kit have an engine included in the kit purchase price? Most I've seen provide front and rear end but no box or engine I'm 180cm tall. Do you think I would have problems driving the finished product? I'm not interested in the stretched ones. Does anyone know if there is a Dax kit importer in Australia? Finally, if anyone has photos of their finished cobra I'd appreciate it. I've seen some kits that just don't look right and then others like the dax kit that look stunning. |

id love to do something like that, but I reakon you are better off buying one second hand. The majority of them are weekends that dont get much of a run anyway.
Find a good example and go from there IMO, alot easier too!

my husband and I are looking at building one next year, he's building it for me and then we build his GT40.
we spoke to the cobra & gt40 club who put us in touch with the guys down at Yatala who do the kits. Don't know where the paperwork is here at home but from memory it was going to cost us about $65K to build. They do the chassis onsite (they will also build it for you). We were advised to go find a BA XR8 write-off (from a roll) and use that, the chassis that the guys in Yatala build will fit all components of the BA in there, including the dashboard. Running joke is that I will have a XR but with a new bodykit on it : I think the rolling chassis is going to cost us under $20K. If you're in Queensland, then the engine that goes into your new car (which a kit car is) isn't allowed to be more than 5 years old, so we've basically got 3 more years to get the car finished and on the road to register it. If you want more information then PM F6Tornado - that will prompt him to get off his tush and find the paperwork ;)

I was only thinking this afternoon how far out that would be fitting BA running gear. I didn't think anyone would actually do it though. The boss motor through side pipes, that would be something!
I'll probably stick with the good ole windsor to keep costs and weight down. I can easily pull more than enough power out of an injected stroker. Buying something already built is an option. I've seen a couple of nice ones on carsales... |
