Meh, i can't understand what all the fuss is about. Just another run of the mill commo that'll be regarded as a POS in 10 years time - just like the VT and everything else before it.

Dude, put the crackpipe down. VT interiors are horrible with cheap plastic finish and way too may green lit displays. The BA interior is pure class in comparison.

The AU 1 Forte dash was horrid
With that different coloured plastic egg centre stack.

AU2 and 3 were a lot better

Even still there is nothing wrong with the VT interior. If people want a blinged up interior then buy a BMW or a Merc. I couldn't really care less about the interior so long as it does the job, which is steer the car, show what speed you're going, etc.

The VZ looks like it was designed with crayons and this imo is an improvement if you like the status quo of Opel. Very unexciting.

No offense but? he is the one getting shot down. All he does is offer info. I'm embarrassed as a Ford owner by the crap that goes on by other FF members. Holden guys might stick up for their own but Ford blokes seem to shoot off their mouths and make all the snarky childish comments, Grow up!

Anyway... I agree that colour looks absolute crap but I believe it is an OPTION ONLY? If thats the case I dont think they will sell many with coloured dashes but the rest looks pretty good

Here Here on both counts. I'm getting sick of the brainless "its a holden so its crap" comments, makes this forum as childish as some of the worst Holden ones. They are just cars, Holden doing it well makes Ford do it better. Take off your patches and see the cars for their strengths and weaknesses. There are many elements of the new VE which make the Ford look dated, but in 2008 Ford will hopefully leap back in front, until VF, etc.

Apparently the Dash, Instruments, Leather and External colour can all be matched, although its not a complete pick and mix. Holden apparently have had much feedback that the Orange Dash looks crap, but the target group for the full on option (blind??) really like it. I would have orange instruments and leather inserts if I had an orange car, but that dash is just too much.

I agree about the comments and personally I can’t wait to see what the SS and HSV cars look like in the flesh but I don’t agree about making the Falcon look dated. Ve doesn't look to be bringing much new to the table in terms of design. Some shots, both interior and exterior have a look of C class Mercedes. The guards on the front a huge worry in terms of proportion and angles. In some ways the VE has a bit of AU about it. Depending on which way you approach the vehicle it does seem to be proportionally challenging, especially concerning the small boot and extended guards. Those guards went out with the A9X and despite Merc S class attempt to bring them back in vogue they are always going to be hit or miss with some people. On the base cars those guards could make it look very stupid. On the sports variants, something very special.

In a declining market the consumer is the winner. There will undoubtedly be more equipment for not much more dollars. For Holden this car should be a quantum leap over the antiquate architecture on which it has survived to date. How much that brings to the table in terms of real world benefits remains to be seen.

But this is exactly what happens when a car company losses control of the release. Half shots, poor exposure, people jumping to conclusions on half truths. When it comes time to release the facts they have to contend with the preconceived ideas already formed. At least LR had the commonsense to release the Freelander 2 information once it was leaked and control the content and way its product was depicted. Having Holden employee's traveling around the place trying to avoid pic hunters, potentially breaking road rules and putting people in danger is definitely not the way to release a new model.

Ian

Spot on. I have the same concerns regarding the designs of the VE variants.

It was clear to me when the first spy pics were released (the ones at their proving grounds) that the proportions and flares had considerable problems from quite a few viewing angles. To me that is poor design excecution.

There is a feel about VE that it has only caught up to Ford's BF Falcon, from a mechanical point of view, and a design point of view.

The only area of advantage that i can see is the possibility of added safety features for the 5 star rating target. It remains hard to predict how effective certain fuel consumption improvements turn out as there is the expectation of significant extra weight.

So in conclusion - For the development dollars spent on VE i am somewhat disappointed with what seems to be the result.

I find the coloured interior absolutely horrid, but the design of the interior looks good, the colourd dash IS an option but hopefully its a separate option to the seat colours and dashboard.

One will see, I just wish they'd release the bloody thing already, it's good to see they are going to the extent of different dashboard layout, headlights and tailights and grille for the diff models.

I don't like the painted dash, but the overall layout looks really nice.

Had a look at a VE luxo short wheel base today parked at Taylors Lakes Shopping Centre. Interior a nice black leather, had screens head rests front seat and bose speakers in doors. The dash and transmission were covered by a sheet, but the transmission looked like the tiptronic type on SS variant. Had the little bit on the side in the front fendor like the Aston Martins. Maybe an SS with luxo pack?

I think the VE is going to be one hell of a car, and it would be foolish and one eyed of us to dismiss it. Having said that, I for one would require a HUGE visceral advantage in order to take the VE over the BF or BFII for that matter. I sincerely hope they do something clever with BFII, I think they have it in them but have to be wise about it.
