Hey fellas,
Last night when i was leaving work something very strange happened. I have a very steep driveway that i go up as i exit work roughly 10m in length and ordinarily my car has no problems going up this driveway at all. The problem is that on this particular day half way up this ramp my car starts spluttering and no matter how much i accelerate it does not move but rather just goes backward. I tried switching fuels but it still would not budge, the more i accelerated the more it would just rev and not go forwards at all, so then i chucked the auto into neutral and rolled back down the driveway and then fiddled with a few things and made another attempt at the driveway. This time i made it all the way up but lost power and stalled at the top of the steep driveway. I then started it and drove off no worries 35km home. Yet to find out today if i will have the same problems again.: I suspect a vaccuum leak but can't be 100% sure, anyone know WTF this prob would be? Cheers, Phil. |

heya buddy, hearing it free rev in drive, especially up a hill, makes me think maybe low or no trans fluid in your gearbox.... but the stalling at the top beats me, sorry i'm not much help to ya mate :/

There is plenty of juice in the box but when it was revving it was in gear just lost like 95% power for some reason.

One possibility is checking your relays and earths, it might have some kind of LHM problem and might not like attempting a steep driveway in 3rd. (it's a possibility)

What would i be looking for on the relays? Just if they are plugged in properly or what? Thanks. I thought it could also be the chiptorque playing up, not plugged in properly (come loose) maybe that could be a possibility? I have not removed the kick panel and had a look yet.

How high was it revving? Just torque converter slip (around 2000-2500rpm at the most) or a big transmission slip (would valve bounce if you floored it).
It definately sounds to me like not enough fluid in the box. I had a VC that was about 1 litre short of trans fluid. Drove fine but tried to kick-down into second during a sharp left-hander and it did nothing but rev. I assumed it was all the fluid moving to the right side of the trans and the trans not having enough pressure to properly engage second gear. I would imagine driving up a very steep hill could do the same thing. |

It seems sometimes I overlook the simple things and go into auto technical diagnostic mode. |
