Default 2ltr conversion

I think its about time to make a post that has every bit of info about the common 1.6 to 2ltr conversion in a mk2 escort. so could everyone drop in their info to this post. thanks

I thought the most common way was to sell the 1.6L and buy a 2.0L ...

that is probably the easiest way to do it, but for the people who can't do that, i dont think much has to be changed, off the top of my head, the radiator has to be recessed into the radiator mount and the top cut off the bracket, swap accelerator cable and switch all the wiring for the alternator to the other side, your exhaust needs to change sides, cant remember if the gbox lines up tho, and i think a couple new fuel lines for the webber aswell. anyone is welome to correct me if i'm wrong or add on

Your pretty much spot on, the g/box and bell housing all match up. Like has been said the wiring for the alternator is on the other side and stuff. you might wanna up-grade your suspension while your 1.6 is out so it handles better with more weight but thats up to you, will run just fine with 1.6 L suspension. I have done the conversion my self. Please PM if you need any questions answered.

Default gbox mount

Hi All
Just starting a 2l conversion MK1 Esky with Cortina motor and have mounted the motor in roughly it appears the sump needs modifying and possibly the pickup also the gbox shifter is slightly further back and it appears that some of the reinforcing on the floor will need to be removed to accomodate this ...Any comments

Yeah, if the motor came out of a cortina, they have a different sump I think.

hey benny mac...i just spotted your XR4i. i had one up until a couple of months ago. a hugely underated car (as you know). very quick in a straight line, but mine handled like a dog on wet lino. it also used a ton of fuel. however, on a hot perth summer night, driving along with the V6 purring, the sunroof open and the windows down, it was a treat.
