Default Dynoed... 320RWHP @ 10psi

Got my car dynoed finally today. Im pretty happy with the overall results, still need a few more hours though, and maybe bump up the boost.

Anyhow, heres what my setup is.
EF Falcon running AU motor(Low K thank God). STOCK.
Garret GT35/40 Turbo, with Tial Wastegate
Wolf3D
60LB injectors, with a walbro 600HP pump.

Does anyone know where I should go from here, to maybe reach 400?? I mean, more boost yeh, but i want the least amount of boost as possible. The tuner said at its current state, he would easily get 340 with more time. Keep in mind this was only 1.5 hrs work.

It started off quite drastically as the spark plugs i was using wouldnt allow more than 6psi. Apparently Bosch super 4s are a waste of time for boosted apps. They couldnt get over 150HP with those plugs so they changed to NGks, and made a smaller gap, and that was it.

Cheers.

Nice. More power from Turbo cars is always the same, increase the ability to breathe. Look at Camshaft & exhaust. Not sure what you are running at the moment but look at what is restricting the motor. Also, I've heard whispers of those Walbro pumps being fairly optimistic in terms of what they can flow. But the tuner should have told you if it was starting to run out of legs.

Yeh i asked him about that, but he said there is plenty more fuel, and since its only a rough/quick tune, he has the current tune running rich.

As you can see, mid range still needs a lot of work, so ill definately be going back next week.

Exhaust is a 3 inch, with hi flow cat, and still on the stock AU cam so i may look at a custom grind soon.

Just get a crow cam in there.

I didnt have any headwork on my AU other than valves and a cam and went 308rwkw. It was an XR head though.

Do it! Turbo 4L is the best of both worlds, a big torquey mofo for lugging around off boost, and an animal when it spools!

Big exhaust duration and a wide LSA will get the head flowing for a boosted application.

Even a split timing cam could be a good idea. 230degExhaust 220degIntake 114LSA.

Awsome result for 10PSI as well (235rwkw).

3in exhaust is probably not big enough, bigger is better on turbos.
Atleast run bigger for the first half of the exhaust, and have a dump before the diff for track days.

I was always under the impression that turbo cams had a large exhaust duration and minimal overlap (wide LSA)

im a bit concerned at the time it takes it to spool up to max boost...!! i take it you arent using a boost control of any description, by the look at that, you must just have your wastegate hose connected straight to your turbo/manifold

Yes mate, your right there. Only using the spring atm, as i have ordered in a wolf boost controller but it hadnt arrived in time. The spool up seems a lot quicker than beforehand, so at least its heading in the right direction. Also, its got a 1.06 rear so im not too concerned. I only wanted them to make it drivable off boost, but they did more than expected like usual lol

I am going in next week with the wolf boost control configured to about 13psi so hopefully i might see a bit more HP and get that mid range sorted out.

Yes it was a very fun drive home :P:P I didnt know i could do Redcliffe to Indooroopilly in 10mins :P:P JK

It definately feels like a bloody fast car now, but still lacks the midrange tune, so im still feathering it.

Yes, i was expecting a lot less for 10psi, especially with a bog stock AU motor. Keep in mind this was only 1.5Hrs dyno time, and he spent most of that on off boost apps, idle and starting. So i was quite surprised watching the power curve hit 320, and then 315 in shootout. Im looking foreward to the cam too, but i have to control myself as i dont know how much it will take :P

Cheers guys

what is your full boost? and what boost control you using?

What other factors come into spool up time?

my max boost is anywhere from 8-17psi.

using the SM4's boost control function

exhaust manifold design, intake manifold, camshaft, porting, exhaust size/restriction all play a big role...

i actually had big problems in getting the boost down, i certainly dont consider a 35/40 1.06 BIG for a good flowing 4l, its the very smallest turbo id recommend...

heres a link to my dramas http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30297

Yeh, well with no boost control im getting a constant 10-11psi, which was 6-7psi with the other spring.

I was thinking of using the wolfs boost control function but others have had a bit of trouble with it? It would be good to have the ability to adjust boost via the hand controller though..

What would you make of the cheapo T piece boost controllers? I might try both the wolf and the T Piece to see what happens.
