Lightbulb A Q On Escorts

hey guys i keep seeing targa videos and tarmac rallys and these MK1 and 2 escorts and ever time they do a U Turn these things snakey up the road? How the heck are these guys getting this power out of these things? Are they highly worked or just a little bit?

They are all mostly twin cams and Bda escorts. They cost a fortune though but you could get a twin cam for maybe 20,000 and then you wouldnt really have to do much with the engine because they are already quite pokey.

i think that you will also find that the setup in the rear has alot to do with it as well, apparently by fitting a four link rear with a watts link it takes all the play and give out of the rear end there fore making it quite stiff....................apparently!

I'm picking my RS2000 up today after 8 months getting the engine and gearbox rebuild. After over $11000 it should produce 160hp at the fly which is around 60hp over standard. The BDA's the classic rally guys are using produce close to 250hp at the fly and cost anywhere up to $50000 for a full competition engine. The other option is going Cosworth YB, cheaper than the Cosworth BD series engines, but still expensive if things go wrong. The Pinto if built right should be bulletproof to spin to 7500revs with 160hp on tap so you can run it every day, where the other engines would be play things only. AT only 1000kg's a 160 hp Pinto Escort will be a flyer, just never a real tyre fryer.

A pinto engine can push 220hp N/a if built and tuned correctly.No a very good daily driver at all but still pushes the ponies.
my turbo EFI 2ltr pinto Im hoping for 300hp fly eventually after some development and money, long term.

FF&R in the 90's released an artilcle about the "magic" 100 hp per Litre mark in the pinto. Many people claimed it was possible, but nothing had been proved. They tried everything and couldn't get more than approx 190hp.

Even with the advance in EFI the pinto parts catalog has remained relatively standard and only small increases have been seen. If you can get 220hp out of a Pinto on an engine dyno, not a chassis dyno, I know alot of people who'll be banging down your door.

As for a turbo pinto. 300hp easy. Just add super strong internals and crank up the boost. Skies the limit until it shoots a rod out the block.
