Default AU XR6 Insurance - under 25??

Hey Guys,

My loan just got approved, im looking at a 98 AU XR6 5 speed.. its going for around $12,900.. it only has 110,000k's on it.

My question is, very broadly - is that price alright??

2nd

Can you recommend anyone for insurance as im under 25 most of the banks and that don't give insurance on XR6's if you are under 25..

I was told to go with "young and cool insurance" http://www.youngandcool.com.au/

Tried to phone before but the lines are too busy..

What do you think i'd be looking at for insurance if I can find someone. My friend has an AU falcon 5 speed, exhaust, extractors, 20 inch wheels and he's only paying $1300 a year. (and they know about all the mods)

Cheers

Yeah but if you wrote your car off you'd be stuffed for alot of money...

When im around 19 i want to get a new car... i'd love to get a XR6 ba.... but considering the price for full comprehensive insurance its not worth it.... but by the time you spend all that money on a BA XT and hot it up....

ahhh stupid insurance

my el 2 xr8 is insured for $1650 full comp (im 20) and thats with rims exhaust suspension etc .. at just car .. they were $1000 cheaper than all other places, but what they cut in price and allow for modifications they make up for in excesses. but the idea, dont have an accident! the agreed value last year was $16,800 .. i was shocked, its worth more to be stolen than to be traded or sold!!

I'm with Young & Cool for my XR, I think from memory I paid ~$1200 at the beginning of the year.
The only other place that would cover me was Just Cars, but they wanted $4011 a year!!

Im 21 with an 99' AU XR6 5speed..

Just cars wanted $3300, Alphera wanted $1100-1200... I gave up and let dad sort it out for me, I just know im paying $80 a month now for full comp on it.

Oh and heres a laugh, Shannons wanted $7000 <-- can you believe that.. i'd be paying the car off every 2 years.

Feathers, how old are you..? is your insurance full comp?? I got quoted $1900 a year from AAMI, do you think that sounds alright? excess is $700 per claim.

$600 for an modded XR6!
Im with Just Car as well, ive just bought an ED Gli, stock standard and im paying $588p.a. with a $1150 exess 3rd party for fire and theft.

and to foxtrot, i guess you just have to keep ringing around until you find a good price... i found that different operators at the same company would give me a slightly different quote... its a pain to go through their questions, broken english and heavy accents but keep calling and you should be able to find something good.

In the end I went with just car insurance due to the fact that they have an open minded policy towards modifications.

It would want to be an extremely good example for that price. See the quote from www.redbook.com.au for your car below. However I've seen them go even cheaper again.

AU XR6 Sedan 4dr Man 5sp 4.0i
Prices based on km 120,000 - 200,000
Trade in price guide* $6,600 - $8,100
National average price - private sale* $8,800 - $11,400
Price when new (RRP) $38,990

I'm 23, I do have full comp cover, though to be covered for theft they ask you install a 3 point passive arming immobiliser.
(Useless sorted that out for me :voldar02: )

After fishing out my Insurance Certificate for this year (which I'd stupidly put in a different place to all the rest of my paperwork), I've found:

My NCB is 60%
There is a basic excess of $400 and an excess of $600 if the driver involved in the claim is under 25.

There is/was a discount on your excess if you complete an approved Driver Training course.
I own the car outright, and my father is listed as a secondary driver.

I suppose the higher premium AAMI ask, trades off against the slightly lower excess, though there could be conditions to it.
Personally I've heard some not so complimentary things about AAMI, but if you're happy to go that way, by all means do.

There's a series III AU XR6 in the for sale section for $15k. I'd look around first.

its sounds spot on to me.
you might want to recheck that excess, it sounds like an age excess to me, age excess is in addition to the standard excess not instead of.

Oh and i went and looked at the car today, I didn't realise it had a bodykit. I'll try and get the price down as much as i can but i really want this car.. there is a scrape on the back left with rust on the bare metal.... and a crack in the side skirts on the body kit. Wonder what im looking at to fix the scrape... the bodykit crack.. meh!

Overall its a really nice car and the black interior (dash etc) looks awesome compared the grey.. is it just standard for AU XR's to have black rather than grey??

Always buy with your head and not your heart. They are asking about $2-3000 more than market price.

I know you're really keen and it's probably a great car but don't show it when negotiating. Make an offer and then let them sweat it out. Make them call you. If you can't buy it for what it's actually worth, walk away... there are many more about for the right price. If they come down in price and you buy it, great. Patience and strong negotiating... you will save a few thousand.

Good luck mate.

Oh, try QBE for insurance.

Insurance shouldn't be too expensive. I'm 23 and was quoted about 1,100 P/A for a BA XR6 Turbo. That was full comp with Just Car. I was surprised how cheap it was.

That suprises me too. Mine is around $1200 with NRMA for an AUII xr6 ute with a few mods, under 25. I realise that I am paying a bit much, but anyway...
