Hey Guys
I'm currently using the factory fitted premium sound system with CD stacker, but I'm thinking about fitting an aftermarket headunit with Mp3 player. Does anyone know if aftermarket headunits work with the factory stacker? Or do I have to forfeit using the stacker if I upgrade? Cheers, Michael

Well I've found 6 CD's in the stacker is almost equal to 1 Mp3 cd, but I still like the stacker and would prefer to keep in if possible.
It's good to know I can get it apadated thou, thanks Niko. The headunit I want to put in already has a remote that can be mounted on the steering wheel, but thanks for the info Cartz

Hrm, I had the standard system in my EF Fairmont (well, not standard, but not premium) that had the stacker in it.
I've turned into an MP3 person ever since P2P software has been around :P And highspeed internet, too. In my own opinion, I love WMA players (Most CD systems that cost over 200 dollars can read them) because I can fit about 170 songs to a CD, and the "tracks" actually come up on the unit (the name, not just Trk 3, Trk 4, etc). Putting the headunits in seems to be a pain in the *** though, I just finished installing my new Clarion headunit today, by modifying the brackets that were on the original (That unversal crap is rubbish, I find the headunit always wobbles, so in my friends EL, and my EF, I've done it but modifying the brackets). You also need to buy a wiring harness adaptor for ford's headunit harness, all the ones I've done you just buy a adaptor, then you solder "Colour to colour" onto the one that came with the headunit. Autobahn, supercheap etc have those for about 25 dollars. (Saves you hacking into the loom and trying to figure out where everything goes :P) In my humble opinion, headunits are worth it, but dont go out and buy anything less than 200, make sure they do WMA, MP3, and read CD-R + CD-RW. If you're serious about your sound, then you should buy a amp, and run all the speakers from it. But it gets compilacated and you'll have good quality on the headunit's amp (as long as you dont crank it, lol) Ummm, sorry to blabber :P You might already know all this, but also - if you get a headunit, get new speakers. The stockers are yukky to say the least. A set of 4 cheap sony 6"s will give you all you need I've spent 1200 dollars on my car sound in the last week :( - I wish I spent it on engine mods :P |

Oh I'm serious about sound. I'm probably going to transplant my current pioneer system out of my EB into the EF. About 4000 dollars worth of audio there.

Ahhh, Pioneer is a big "meh" on speakers, imho.
Thier headunits and amps are alright though I have a Pioneer headunit in the EL, but I moved over to Clarion for the EF, I must say, Pioneer are a lot more user friendly :P |

if u guys want some quality speakers for the rear, 6.5" 2 way taranchulas made by sound stream. retail is about $300, but most places do them a fair bit cheaper, they are of the same level as alpine type r's. bang for you buck thats for sure, mine go hard.
