Question BA TR3650 5speed

Will a BA TR3650 5speed manual fit into my AU2 XR8?
Are these the same 5 speeds used in the 5.6 litre strokers?
Im guessing i'l have to change the bellhousing? Is this the only modification il have to do?

there is a fair few differences in the box as i am sure the input shaft is totally different in size and lenght, the 5.6 has a custom bellhousing specially made for tickford, you can get BA 3650 boxes for around $800 and the AU 3650 tend to fetch around the $2000 plus mark, to buy parts to replicate a AU box would be expensive and thats if you could get the parts as i am sure some are unavailable
there are alot of people on here that know alot more detail so sit tight and i am sure they will give more accurate details

you would also need a 26 spline clutch plate

and i would say another driveshaft as the 3650 is longer than the t5 and may be different gearbox cross member, speek to mal wood automotive as he is the tremec importer for australia and he would probably have a kit to suit, but it all adds up and could turn out to be quite expensive

the amount of money that it could cost you may be the difference between your au2 and a cheap te50 fitted with a tremec

jimt3te50 would know

Yeah- that's what I thought.......

$7k plus fitting, plus clutch- I'd hardly call it "only $7k" considering that's more than half what most AU's are worth now.........

Believe me- if I thought "only" $7k was a bargain I'd have one, but I don't- if I could get a BA one to fit, at $800 I'd have two in the shed......

So i take it the BA 97LE auto will be the same, as in the gearbox length will be longer than the AU 97LE?

I think you'll find out, its more like drive in, tow out, because there wont be a box or clutch & other bit & bobs fitted ...

Thats what they said when I was up there can only go on that. Thought it was too expensive so tried to get a price on a brand new imported one in sydney and it was $5500 and would still need alteration.

It might be worth getting onto some sites in the states, the 3650 was used behind a Mustang with a windsor engine, but I cant remember which model. I think it may have been a Saleen. Do a search & you might get onto one there.
The biggest problem was the Tickford addapter plate. Tickford chopped the front off the gearbox & the front bearing is now located in the plate not the box, thats why there a bugger to fit to anything else. Hope that helps.
Site sponser has the odd T3 come in now & again he may be able to find you a T3 box.
