As a newbie (who has never run) who's interested in racing, was the general go with rear tyres.
Who changes them/who reckons it worth it. I don't wanna run on my street tyre cause i don't wanna kill them. Is there anything wrong with using steelies with cheap tyres or even re treads. Not sure what to do, so : Cheers |

Steelies are fine, but remember if they are heavier than your normal wheels, your car will be slower over the 1/4.
Using recaps for racing is likely to be asking for trouble, I think they are only rated to 140 kmh and they may not pass scruiteneering. Cheap tyres may result in wheel spin which again will result in slower et's. Buy proper tyres for racing and that way you have no excuses for running a time you are not happy with. Too many people go out and spend a fortune on their cars to race and then little things like tyres let them down and they start to make excuses. Use the correct tool for the job, in drag racing use correct tyres.

Hey guys, ive heard that for every kilo you take off the unsprung weight of the car it equates to taking 6kgs off the body. If thats the case which type of lightweight wheel would you recommend for racing? Also what are your thoughs on Toyo Proxes RA-1s, ive heard they are good for racing applications? Also would anyone happen to know the weight difference between the stock xr 17s and the xr8 18s?

Unsprung weight is 2 to 1 I think, Toyo Ra1's are a great tyre, I use them for circuit racing, I have done the same 60' time on 225*50*15 RA1's as I have on 235*60*15 M/T et street radials, there very sticky,heat up fast,and are 100% street legal,so you can drive to and from the track without a worry.

Toyo's are good very pricey, RRP $480 ea FOR THE 18's I use.
Brad picked me up some for $390 ea in S.A. I have a set of M/T Drag radials 16x255 never been used fitted on 2 BA XLS Alloys, there for sale, send me a PM if your interested.
