Default Which is more important first?

My mate has an EF 4.0litre gli and has around 500-600 bucks to spend which one is more important? Both will cost around the same. I would say get the diff sorted first but his lifters are getting very loud at all times of driving, his tried using addetives and replacing oil and filter etc. and still has knocking issues so it's definately shagged lifters. I also understand that the addition of the cam will make his EF a little more sluggish off the line, but his lifters are noisey..... so his stuck on what to do....

no point putting a diff in if the engine is about cactus. i would get the engine running properly first.

definatley get it running properly first, so do cam and lifters....
the diff would liven it up but as mentioned theres no point doing that untill the engines right....
