Default surround sound

using a surround sound setup..
have the audio (via optical cable) going from dvd to it (surround system)
but have video (vis s-video) cable from dvd straight to tv..
and the sound is out by approx 1 sec

so do i pipe the s-video cable into the surround sound, and out to the tv?

Where am I going wrong ????

Thanks in advance

By right, the way you have it setup should be fine. I have mine setup with the coax for sound and the s-video for the pic and there is no delay.

It almost sounds like your dvd player isn't up to specs to run coax sound and s-video picture ( even though it has the outputs ! , heaps of crap dvd players out there like this ).

Maybe try go into your menu on your dvd player / into the options / and set the sound quality at a lower setting, so the dvd player can decode both the picture and sound no worries .

Also make sure the Audio in the dvd players menu is setup to direct the sound to the coax ! . Some players you can plug in the coax / not change any settings / and it works / but incorrectly usually.

If your audio is set to AC3 (in the dvd player menu), then try changing it to PCM , this might also help .

Check the settings on your surround system through the audio menu. Mine has delay settings for each speaker depending on how far away they are from the screen. This may be part (or all) of the problem

Thats what i was going to say

Failing that, plug it direct as possible and then test, KISS principle when testing things.

not all on-board video switchers are created equally, and on poorer quality units, you might experience a lack of synchronization, and perhaps a noticable loss of quality on the video signal. If this is the case, the only thing you can do is bypass it, straight in to the TV as you have done.
