Finally got one

Ok I think some of you guys would remember this thread, from a few months ago.

So I have some good news.

I got a job in plumbing (Labouring actually) and I start on Monday, working 5 days a week and get $15 a hour.

Better then working for a ***** $5 a hour, pushing trolleys.

Now I'll have money, too do stuff to my car. (Or even save up for a E-series falcon

)

I'm pretty stoked, because I didn't have to go for an interview. My mum was the one who got me it, so I thank her.

Well done. Look into a plumbing apprenticeship. Plumbers can make more money than Doctors, which is good because all Plumbers really need to know is that water runs downhill!

To be honest, it was never something, I thought about doing, but then again, I had no real career ambitions.

I'm willing to give anything go and I wont know, unless I try and it beats sitting at home all day, stressing over not having a job.

Gas0Lane: The guy, I'm going to be working for, said he would give me a trial and then look at an apprenticeship.

I don't really want to start an apprenticeship and find out, it's not what I want to do. Atleast this way, I can get the feel of the business and make judgement later on, whether I want to or not, persue a cemented career in plumbing. ;)

Aaahhh the only two professions in the world that get to bury their mistakes...doctors and plumbers.

Go for the apprentice routine...very good money at the end some crappy work sites but hey you could earn 100k + after tax in a year.

Plumbers can actually earn quite a good wage depending on how hard you want to work. My uncle is a plumber and he has a quite a bit of dosh.

Like others here have said, shut up and listen to the people employing you, don’t be a smart a** and you could be looking at a Porsche before you’re even allowed to drive one in NSW.

You tend to hear this chestnut a lot, but as a friend who is a plumber stated: "It ain't all water, that's why we charge."

Its a tough trade mate,alot of specialising these days though,
licensing takes 6 years at least,and there are a heap of modules to get through,basic and advanced drainage and water,basic and advanced gas,
roofing,mechanical,design,business principles and probly a few added since I did it.Then you have TMV's and RPZD's which are a course on there own.
There is also LPG gasfitting which I would recommend seeing as your in newcastle,Im in Sydney and still do some every now and again..
There are some good jobs available if you stay keen and learn the whole trade,which is large in scope and varied,working for a wage you wont make the type of money others have talked about,its a myth.
Now working for yourself can be rewarding financially,but there are alot of risks involved,getting paid is the major hassle,if you contract to builders..
It is a good idea to see what its like before commiting to a 6 year apprentceship,as not everyone is suitable or would put up with/like it..

It's good if you enjoy playing with other people's poo ... a mate of mine is a plumber ... and the 5h1t he has to deal with ... literally.

I got the flick, after just 4 days. :(

The boss said, it wasn't anything against me, I just wasn't cut out for the job.

I did make about $500 though, which I'm spending to get my windows tinted.

Oh well. I've been knocked down and it looks like I'll have to get up.

Atleast I now know, how the pipeworks, under houses, are put together.

I don't know Nugget378. My uncles a plumber. Owns 5 houses in very prominant area's. If you go by his assets? He's a millionaire twice over + a bit more. He's at a stage in life where he really doesn't need to work anymore. His father was also a plumber and he's trying to get my cousin in to the same line of work. I advised my cousin he'd be silly not to.

He know moonlights @ Crown casino doing plumbing just to occupy himself. He'd be around the 50 mark age wise. He'll always do something otherwise he'll go stir crazy. Bit like myself. I can't even go on holidays without going stir crazy. I need to be kept busy.

Ah well these things happen unfortunately. Some boss's expect you to already know the job when it's impossible when you have no experience in it. You can either try and find another plumbing job or search for something else. If your young? It shouldn't be hard if your keen. I had 13 jobs in one year trying to find something I didn't hate or didn't bore me. I ended up locked into a gov't job just clocked 10 years this year. Doesn't pay as well as I would have liked but it's not too bad.
