MP3's are great and I think are better than CD's because I have about 3000 songs on my computer....Imagine storing those somewhere! Also, most Mp3 sites are free...

Digital music as a standalone format is the most unsatisfying way to accumulate music. I still buy CDs, but now I rip them first up. But I get the booklet, I get the cover art, the lyrics - but most importantly, the music in a high quality format. I still buy vinyl as well, as it still has the best overall listening experience, it's just a pain in the .

I can't see myself ever paying for downloaded music.. I much prefer to buy the CD and rip it myself (at better quality than any of the downloaded music) and also then I don't completely lose it if my HDD crashes..

i have only ever paid for on cd, that was a 97 summer hits album, i have now lost that cd but since i can remeber i have been the biggest tight on the face of the planet and as such i just dubbed all my mates music, then when burning came out i burnt my mates collection, then i burnt their mp3 (cuz i didnt have decent enough internet) now i have a 200gb hd i have broadband and about 5gb of music and 15gb of music videos, as for sound quality it sounds so much better when you didnt pay for it :Reverend:

yeap I could count the amount of original cd's I have on one hand I reakon. Only because 28 days isn't on limewire...lol...they were cool in high school :/

Winamp is by far the best app for MP3's, quick and easy. I have all my MP3's and videos backed up so no worries there either. And when you have an MP3 player in your car its alot easier on space when you can burn MP3's directly to a CD.

im a music pirate. i own less than 5% of my music. i have over 3400 songs. im not afraid to admit it. cd's are expensive, and a waste of money if its a crap cd.

im all for supporting the bands i love. but if you want me to support, stop asking for $30 per cd. then i might consider it.

my latest cd purchase, was the new black by Strapping Young Lad. and that dissappointed me. so i wont be buying another cd for a LONG time.

I dont mind buying CDs or Mp3 downloads from ITunes or Bigpond music but the quality sucks when you go to burn an mp3 cd for the car.

My thoughts exactly...I can't remember the last time I actually paid for a CD...Unless its a limited edition, or a some massive release by a band I love then no...will never pay for music...not as long as its freely available elsewhere...

Sorry, but that attitude sucks. I know you listen to metal and the guys in these bands, unless they are a Metallica or a Korn or something, aren't running around in Ferraris living in mansions. They are people who, in some cases, work as well as have the band. If you're listening to more underground stuff, then it's likely these bands are paying for studio time, instruments because they aren't endorsed, etc from their own pockets.

Indie bands and indie labels are suffering because of people like you - the majors whinge the most, but they rake in the dollars. The indies aren't. I used to run a label, and mates of mine have too, and they don't survive. There are still people who buy music, but the younger generation just expect music for free.

I hope at least you buy heaps of t-shirts and attend shows of bands whose music you're stealing. If you don't like it enough to buy their CD, or legitimately buy the digital music, delete it. Musicians and bands don't exist to provide you with listening pleasure for free unless they offer it.

Stealing music isn't like stealing movies. Movie actors, crew, etc are paid in advance of the movie being released. Sure, some actors, writers, etc get % royalties from movies, but they get massive retainers in advance. The studios then need to recoup that investment, but everyone else is already paid.

With bands it's different. Bands get royalties for musical performance and music composition. Often they don't get paid those royalties until the label has recouped advances made to pay for studio time, tour advances, other expenses, even marketing. Bands are lucky to get a $1-2 per CD thats sold. Indie bands don't often get royalities band until months or over a year after a release was put out.

If you think $30 is too much, buy some real underground music, which you can get postpaid for $15-20, sometimes even cheaper. I know I sold mailorder full length album for $15-20.
