Default More motor races at Mount Panorama

Heres interesting news! I wonder if they could open it for one of the days for the public nurburgring style on one of these race weekends! How good would that be. $40 a lap of something would be ok....

More motor races at Mount Panorama
Tuesday Sep 26 22:33 AEST
Bathurst's Mount Panorama motor racing circuit would be allowed to host five events each year instead of the two now permitted under legislation introduced to NSW Parliament.

The proposed changes to the Mount Panorama Motor Racing Act 1989, introduced on Tuesday night, would significantly boost tourism and the regional economy, NSW Tourism Minister Sandra Nori said.

"In the past four years, the NSW and Commonwealth governments, and circuit owner Bathurst Regional Council, have invested $24 million in developing the facilities at Mount Panorama," she said.

"Allowing up to an extra three races each year will enable Bathurst Regional Council to get maximum return on this major investment for the region."
Mount Panorama currently contributes an estimated $27 million annually and 630 jobs to the regional economy, Ms Nori said.

The bill also contains increased penalties for unsafe or foolish acts.

Bathurst MP Gerard Martin supported the bill.

they will never open it for a 'nurburgring' style public day, in fact reading that last sentence it seems there will be harshers penalties handed out to people having a sunday 'race' when up bathurst way.

The ring has hundreds of casualties each year. If that happened in Australia it would be sued out of excistance. Its only becuase the germans as smart enough to realise that its the drivers fault not the tracks if they die.

it still amazes me that the road is 2way and not made one way... especially given there is no center divider around the twisties

It would be good to see some real race cars smash the V8Supertaxi lap records and dispel the myth that V8Supertaxis are the 'pinacle of Australian motorsport'.
