Default posts keep showing in threaded mode

can anyone help me figure out why everytime i open a thread it shows up in "threaded mode" i have checked my user settings and its set on linear. but it still does it. can anyone help?

run the freeware program from www.ccleaner.com and then if it still occurs make sure that the option on the blue bar on top of each thread - Display mode has the correct settings
