LOL gotta love it when there is a double down. It wasn't that long ago most of asia thought Australians thought and spoke like Pauline Hanson, so I dare say the prejudice goes both ways. Curious, what is "mainstream Chinese"? Never heard of it. Is it main land chinese? honkie chinese? taiwanese chinese? singaporean chinese? malaysian chinese? indo chinese...... Australian chinese? And...can you tell the difference, and if you can, how? BTW Youtube is blocked but it isn't. Check out Barrett channel and Nathan Rich. We do business with China and have an office there. You can even apply to have your IT traffic bypass "the firewall" which we had recently done. Bet you didn't know that did you? Mind you it probably still gets monitored. |

Glad to hear it I would be concerned if you believed that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another.

without the Chinese even failing to pick up the phone and 'negotiate ' , how do we improve the situation ?. It sounds like they dont plan to mend much, I cant see it getting to a mutually beneficial agreement anytime soon if ever.

I cant believe Morrison is using the "our coal is cleaner" card.....in the same week he was barred from speaking at at climate change meeting based on our record.
He should of just stuck to the line of it being poor trading form.

surprised how little 'other' power generation methods have been used/developed.
Fair call, uninformed it appears. Australia's primary energy consumption is dominated by coal (around 40 per cent), oil (34 per cent) and gas (22 per cent). Coal accounts for about 75 per cent of Australia's electricity generation, followed by gas (16 per cent), hydro (5 per cent) and wind around (2 per cent). |

I wouldn't say they didn't see it coming more like they don't give a **** if it did so long as the machine keeps on going somehow.
They probably expected us to bend over immediately which to our credit we haven't as yet The ships are still anchored there ready to unload and could sort it tomorrow. I would have thought you would just turn the ships around after all these months waiting but not sure if China is blocking them from leaving or not. |

It may further be that Australia has less influence on the ship owner, than does China.

motors dont shut down and crew dont leave and then (if like here in WA) they are charged daily for the staging slot they are sitting in and this can be costly after a few weeks let alone a few months and all this on top of the costly investment of the ship that isnt making money

As the vast majority bulk carriers hauling Coal to China are Chinese owned and flagged, and If 80 these ships carrying more than $1.1billion in blacklisted cargo are stranded off the Chinese coast, where would they go?

It may work out well for us.
China have to order coal from other countries. Other Countries put their prices up due to short notice and opportunity. China now buys inferior less efficient coal at a higher price than Australian Coal. Other Countries offload their coal to China and buy the better Australian Coal for themselves and still make a profit from the difference. Everyone wins except China who now pay through the nose for inferior Coal all to their doing.

Ha Ha, can't you see this is just China trying to save the environment?
Coal is bad and China emits too much pollution, so this is just them switching to slightly cleaner sources of fuel. You know, the Chinese way - do it but choose a way that harms everyone the most, in order to stamp out dissent and be authoritarian about it. |

More bans. Beef and beer and more timber.
I think their game is to stir up **** for our next election in the hope for a government that is more soft to be honest. Only reason to explain their huge overreaction to whatever we have said. Hit these industries to turn us against our government. You can do that in a democracy It would seem like a layup but the opposition would be well advised to not campaign on a platform that returns to the status quo because I will certainly would not vote for any government that will bend over to these dickheads. If they get away with it now they will just play that card whenever they feel butthurt about anything. They have shown their hand and I think this was always going to be the case, but the CCP picked a pretty stupid hill (Covid) to die on really. Last edited by MITCHAY; 25-12-2020 at 11:44 PM. |

Don't blame the gov, they've been tip toeing around for months trying to not talk about China. All politician are spineless that way if they want to survive.
Can't say anything because we export iron ore and gas to them, they're the big ticket items, that's what they're really theatening, not beef, booze, bugs or timber. They really want better deals or to threaten iron ore and gas. They NEED steel and energy, not luxury goods or meat from us. If you want to change it you have to think like them, not attack them, but punish local businesses for importing Chinese stuff. That's what they're doing - it's hurting their own people and businesses but they don't care. They have power over there people and he isn't going to be voted out They know any government here can't and won't attack our business, it hurts the local economy in general but especially now after covid recovery and recession. But that's the only way to fight them - we can't, we will roll over no matter who is in charge. We are too weak to fight now after covid. They are acting now because of that, it's the perfect time; not because of comments made by the gov about covid or following trump, but because of the covid recovery, job losses, recession itself we are weak. This could have been the 'singapore' sars, ie nothing to do with China and nothing said about them, but they still would have acted now because now is the time for them to exert the influence they have - they are the factory of the world, we are mainly dirt farmers and earned nothing, just got lucky with natural resources.
