Are their plans any better? Last time I looked they sucked.. The idea of 50gb for $80 is enough reason to go with TPG, as well as having no uploads counted..

No idea what it all means, but I am about 26 Km from Canberra on a rural exchange and we know the main cable from home to the exchange has had several lightening strikes and Telstra person who last came to inspect it said he does not understand how we even get phone access.

Interesting, I'm only on the 512 plan with them as far as I know, and this is my results (still incredibly , but I get by):

I wouldn't have thought of changing them in the past, but now, well . I need ADSL2+ and something with some serious speed.

Can anyone tell me if this is any good for Telstra ADSL (BigPond Turbo ADSL 1500/256kbpS)? i'm thinking of changing ISPs.

ADSL2 55gb downloads (25gb on peak 30gb off) $60 odd per month. Reasonably happy so far, found it funny when I set it up all sales people I spoke to were aussie, and when I had a tech question they were all off shore and indian (not meaning to be racist). My speeds probably are not as good as they could be due to the old copper phone lines in my house.

Depends on what sort of value you put on your internet. If you was a company which oversells their bandwidth (possible slow downs) and has their support based overseas but provide large quotas, then TPG is OK.
If you want a company with their own international network to the US, Japan and Europe, has Australian (Adelaide) based support and has been voted the number one ISP in Australia by Whirlpool and other independent surveys for a few years running, then Internode is better in that regard.
Each company has different business styles, so value is perceived differently for each company. Having said that, there is no doubt a lot of people on TPG who probably never have any problems. That's the beauty of the market, your free to choose where you want to go.

That's fine speed wise, but do look in to changing ISP. Telstra is the worst for value for money. You can get more bang for your buck elsewhere, but just don't go to Dodo.
http://bc.whirlpool.net.au is the place to start.

Interesting..

I am on a 60gb Optus cable plan at the moment, looking at changing as I want decent upload speeds. Tossing up between TPG, Netspace and internode, but as you say there are plus' and minus' with both.. Other then the odd bit of work from home over RDP, and uploading stuff to my site, I dont really RELY on the net, its simply for torrents. Thus why I am leaning towards TPG, I can just set and the scheduler and forget it.

I am only 1.6k from the exchange so hopefully will get decent speeds, but I am ever worried about the possibility of crappy copper affecting my speed, and in tern ending up with a slower connection..

All I am getting at the moment:

Although I am downloading at 40kB's atm

Adam Internet ADSL2 my profile is on recommended atm with my ISP if I put it to an aggresive profile or thrillseeker I get higher result but this is what I get with there recommended profile which is what I use. When I use Adam's speed test mirror I get a tranfer rate of 777 KB/Sec. That test is at www.adam.com.au/speed

Yes, the slow upload speed is normal because Cable is an extremely asymmetrical connection... ~20MB downstream and 256K upstream...
