Comparing Apples with Oranges and not even doing the exchange rate adjustment to come up with a $20,000 price differential. How do Journalists (and I must use that term loosely) get away with articles like that?

Such a goose.

Because the car will magically float here on its own, because the car comes with more than the standard US spec car, because out Gov gets its grubby hands on some tariffs..etc etc

This guy needs to go back to kindy. I would be embarrassed to put my name to anything like that let alone the other dribble he has excreted.

The 2001 Mustangs we got were Cobras as well, not GT's.

Cant blame Ford Australia for Import Duty and GST....

There's plenty of other cars cheaper in the US then here (oh thats right the VF SS, which even gets a better motor then here).

I seriously thought this car would be more expensive!

Sorry Guys I actually now have found the time to post this.
I was offered a Mustang Gt this week apparently from my registration of Interest.
The relevant information was as follows.

Ford Mustang V8 Red GT 5.0L Ti-VCT V* Coupe

$2000 Deposit to Secure the Car (Which i thought was reasonable)
$5000 Next payment when it leaves the factory in the States ??????
Is Ford that short of Money ?
I was told by the sales person it may come this year. It may be in the next quarter next year.
Surely if you ordered your $2000 is non refundable and they would keep it. With a shortage of cars you would be able to sell one that a person didn't pick it up. Knowing the dealers it would have been at a premium and they would have sold it for even more.
I was sent a contract which states the purchase price is $64,200 Drive away with 6 months Licence Including Lct and Stamp Duty and Dealer Delivery.
Heres the Kicker
" Vehicle price may increase by $5000 , if any increase is greater than $5001 purchaser may cancel contract." So for one of the first mustangs i would have to pay $69,200 maximum
You guys make think i am tight. But what stops the Dealer from putting on the extra $5000.
Is that my premium for getting a mustang. All they have to say is the exchange rate is bad that week.
But really i found it hard to pick a colour Red or Ruby Red or the Grey LOL Plus i had less than 24 hours to make my decision !! No pressure then !! I did get a brochure though emailed through.

Its a load of crap, deposit is required to secure a car, no further payment required until day of pickup. MLP's are out so they can price the car. Only reason the price of the car could change is if ford Australia change there price to dealers.
Depends on your state but in nsw you can't sell a car with 6 months rego, must be 12, and the only car subject to lct is the convertible, flick me a pm if you would like me to go into it further for you.

The orders my dealership has taken was $2000 deposit, and price is only subject to change if stamp duty, gst or ctp changed at all.

Some people are just trying to take advantage of the hype

But how does a manufacturer keep a dealership in line? Dealerships back end money mainly comes from the feedback received from the surveys sent out from deliveries and servicing. If you don't make target, no money

And that amount of money sat in a dealer's hands when dealers go broke all the time.... And with it you can guarantee that anybody with a deposit of that size will be about 500th in line when it comes to creditors getting any money way perhaps years down the track when everything is finally wound up by receivers...

A non delivery or sale dosnt get a survey form.in their contracts there would be clauses just like any other for tarnishing of name.one close by allegedly dosnt sell them for a similar reason.

If for any reason they don't want to go ahead or can't get finance approved yes,
Which we put into the notes of the contract. Both parties sign, and there is complete transparency.

Has anyone 'built' a Mustang on the Ford US configurator to see what an Australian spec car would cost over there?

To own over there? It's cheaper of course....

To bring it back here, it's more expensive.

Performance pack
Truck from factory to port
Roughly 4k for container
Insurance on your purchase
Random customs fees
10% GST
Convert all to AUD

I sat down with a customer yesterday and did this exact calculation, used my invoices from bringing in Camaro as proof when they didn't believe me. Meh.

I did it on a triple yellow auto eb because thats what im getting, the specs are abit give or take so hard to get exact but i did not include performance pack but added the 1200 dollar wheels to get a close price to the pp rims and upgraded brakes, its about $33500 da which is $43552 aud. My eb is $51540.

Add 10% GST and also duty and it's pretty close.

Plus transport from flat rock plant to the port in your given state, plus transport from that wharf to customs, then from customs to the dealership. Our pricing is fantastic in comparison....!

Do any of you dealer guys know if the "Performance Pack" is standard fitment on the Aussie bound Mustangs and what it will comprise?

Seems to be a lot of conjecture on this or is it simply a case of that information not being fully known at the moment?

I have placed a deposit on a 5.0 Black Fastback Auto based on what I've seen on the Spec Sheets. (The lack of a Performance Pack wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me by the way!)

Thanks,

Jim

We don't get the full kit, we are getting the rhd drive spec, it's a completely different product to the lhd car, this is due to the lead times required, they simplify the options to remove the chance that what's on order will be different to the customers request.

Thanks for that; pretty much what I was thinking.

The aftermarket is huge for these things so I think we'll be able to purchase some of the items we'd really like.

Cheers!

UK. version.

It is RHD. would they bother to confuse things (options and extras) on the assembly line for RHD models?

Going by the build a car section, the uk options are: 2x trim colours, black and white.

upgraded sound which I believe is standard for us, heated and cooled seats(imagine this in aus, really......?) and rear parking sensors which are standard here.
Also metallic paint charges aren't a flat rate like our other cars, it shows race red and orange as flat paint, others are £295, others £595 and yellow is £795. Fairly sure ford aus is charging 0 for non metallic and $500 for metallic. Once they work out which is which, if you go by the website.

We are getting a brilliant package, and aftermarket options are going to be endless.

I understand the cooled seats for aus, and occasionally the heated, but it'd be much more of need for heated in the uk. And much more needed for cooled here.

Has Ford thought of actually just bringing in the whole range? I mean everything from cheapo low spec family two door to the top end ones which will only sell in single figures each year?

I mean, a model needs volume to survive and be profitable, and I still fail to see how keeping it as a well over $60,000-plus car is going to sell in numbers that will make it worthwhile when the bean counters start doing the sums after it's been on sale here for a while...

If they could manage to get base models in and keep the price well under forty to try and attract volume sales, how many people would put their hand up to buy one, even if it has a four or a six up front?
