we've all seen him act around animals, petting them and kissing them and saying " i wont hurt you " now sure as **** he would hav ebeen doing something similar to this stingray and it retaliated. the man was bitten by that many snakes and spiders over the years and his luck just ran out. Its a shame that he died and is a blow to the country. but i just cant see why everyone is so shocked at his death. only that it was caused by a Stingray.

For those interested I recall one article I read said Animal Planet were doing re-runs of his stuff. Don't know if they are still on or not though.

And just to remind everyone there is a tribute on after Border Security tonight.

I'm watching it, with a beer in hand. Haven't seen much of his stuff lately.

Well i will admit that i couldn't stand the bloke but he deserved to live as much as the next bloke.

I heard a tactless joke over the UHF on nsw/vic border last night that has been removed by the AFF moderation team.

removed tasteless joke.
I think that this is in very poor taste to even post such rubbish. If you didn't like the bloke (and I bet you knew him so well) that is your opinion but to post such a poor taste joke is callous.

I have to admit that until now I've never really felt genuinely sad about someone passing that I've never met. But when I heard the news I was really shocked and saddened.

The world has lost a great human being and if only there were more people like him in this world, maybe it would be a better place.

I also saw on TV what Germaine Greer (or whatever her name is!) said after his death... to be honest the world would be a better place without bitter, cynical people like her! She should be ashamed, Steve has done more good for both people and animals than she could ever hope to!

Apparantely one of the nurses at Cairns Base alerted Ch7 well before the family knew. If that's the case, shame on them.

Darran...please don't make statements you can't back...there would have been heavy radio traffic between ship/shore and chopper...any of this could have been intercepted by scanner.

Think about it.

by a stingray too............?? I heard a couple of cases of people getting killed by stingrays, as a matter of fact a couple of years ago there was an incident at st kilda. At the st kilda marina there was a stingray hovering around the area and a group of guys were on the pier. One guy had a bit to much to drink and decided to jump in the water and attack the stingray with a knife. The stingray lodged a barb into his heart and killed him exactly like how Irwin died.

The probability of getting killed by a stingray is very low, just cant beleive it actually attack him. The ray must have got spooked or something. I go fishing all the time and always hook rays (most usually banjo's and skates) but i have come across a couple of eagle rays and even a longtail ray in q'land. You'd imagine a hooked stingray would be likely to lash its tail at you but everyone i have come across doesnt even bother. Even at the melb aquarium (cant remeber what rays exactly) they have up 5-10 spines on there tails and can attack one of the divers while feeding. But it has never happend??!!

It was just bad timing i reckon, and unfortunate too. No one could ever replace him at all, ever. .......................R.I.P Steve Irwin 1962-2006

Felt the same way. Possibly because he seemed like a genuine person, and you got what you saw. The work his did for the conservation of animals and their habitat was great. Very over the top, but that what I love about him, a true aussie ocker. Shame to lose such a great person.

Im with all of you...Each time i forget he has passed...i rememeber...then can't really come to terms with it

i wasn't a big fan of the guy(as in i didn't follow his shows much)....but seeing his face brings a tear to my eye each time

Biggest harmless bastard ever imaginable....After seeing how Steve lived his life it makes me take alook at myself and try to understand why people like him get taken so unexpectedly

maybe this is an emo moment lol but for someone to take life to the fullest while theres people who give their lifes away just makes me ask why?

also makes me want to get up and make sure that when i die....people will rememeber me for what i may do

emo rant off

The Stingray does get quite agressive and its barbed tail does swipe at you when it feels threatened.Having done shark hunting and these things can get very bad if you hook them up....still it wont bring our mate back.
