Here's a couple of charts we haven't looked at for awhile.

First up, the case mortality rate by continent. Oceania is quite low, while Africa and Asia are similar and Europe is a lot higher.

Next the case mortality rate for selected countries. This also ranges from the 0.92% of Russia and the sub 1.5% AU/NZ rates through to the >15% rates of France (15.3%) and Belgium (16.4%).

Next, the case rates per 100k of adult population. This ranges from the 38.99 of Australia through to the USA (710) and Spain (709).

Next are the deaths per 100k of adult population. Again it's a wide range with Australian and NZ ~0.5 and Belgium at 96.7.

The daily new cases shows the upturn for Australia and also some other countries that aren't faring too well:

We didn't lock nothing. The EU were working on their own proposal, and is vastly different to what Australia and US originally wanted.

See this article dated 9th May. China have already said they are willing to participate. It will be done by scientists and health officials, not politicians and secret squirrels. This is going to be really inconvenient for some.

Not sure about Aus but the suicide rate in the US has been rising steadily for a number of years so a rise this year would be in line with the trend. The increase in suicide when unemployment increases in a well documented event, just from memory a 1% increase with every 1% increase in joblessness.

It's hard to say this crisis will definitely follow that trend; the increase this time was so sudden. Japan shows the opposite, a 20% reduction in April but they've had a decreasing trend for some time.

When i got of the plane at Brisbane Airport 2 weeks ago we were all funnelled through to a checkpoint full of the Police, SES, ADF and ABF, only about half of who were wearing masks. They had a row of tables with about 8 Police officers sitting down checking everyone's paperwork and reasons for travelling, one of the roving SES guys (no mask) came up to me and had a quick look at my paperwork and directed me to one of the seated Police (with mask) the one sitting next to him had no mask as did another one that came up to our desk and asked my cop a question.....

Flight from Darwin to Sydney via Alice no flight crew wore a mask - Flight from Sydney to Brisbane all crew wore masks......

It's obviously a personal thing, and no i didn't...

Maybe We Don't Have It All That Bad ?
It’s a mess out there now. Hard to discern between what’s a real threat and what is just simple panic and hysteria.
For a small amount of perspective at this moment, Just imagine you were born in 1900.
On your 14th birthday, World War I starts and ends on your 18th birthday. 22 million people perish in that war.
Later in the year, a Spanish Flu epidemic hits the planet and runs until your 20th birthday. 50 million people die from it in those two years. Yes, 50 million.
On your 29th birthday, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment hits 25%, the World GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33. The country nearly collapses along with the world economy.
When you turn 39, World War II starts. You aren’t even over the hill yet. And don’t try to catch your breath. On your 41st birthday, the United States is fully pulled into WWII.
Between your 39th and 45th birthday, 75 million people perish in the war.
Smallpox was epidemic until you were in your 40’s, as it killed 300 million people during your lifetime.
At 50, the Korean War starts. 5 million perish. From your birth until you are 55, you dealt with the fear of Polio epidemics each summer. You experience friends and family contracting polio and being paralyzed and/or die.
At 55 the Vietnam War begins and doesn’t end for 20 years. 4 million people perish in that conflict. During the Cold War, you lived each day with the fear of nuclear annihilation.
On your 62nd birthday, you have the Cuban Missile Crisis, a tipping point in the Cold War. Life on our planet, as we know it, almost ended. When you turn 75, the Vietnam War finally ends.
Think of everyone on the planet born in 1900. How did they endure all of that? When you were a kid in 1985 and didn’t think your 85-year-old grandparent understood how hard school was.
And how mean that kid in your class was. Yet they survived through everything listed above. Perspective is an amazing art. Refined and enlightening as time goes on. Let’s try and keep things in perspective.
Your parents and/or grandparents were called to endure all of the above…….You are called to stay home and sit on your couch!!!

17 new cases for AU yesterday but no deaths so CMR is down to 1.393% and active cases to 8.2%.

No change in NZ except active cases are down to 3.7%.

3,450 new cases and 468 deaths in the UK but CMR drops to 14.351%.

Just under 27k new cases and 1,628 deaths in the USA so the CMR rises to 5.963% and active cases drop to 72.0%. The country also passed the 1.5M case mark.

Elsewhere:

Spain passed 3M completed tests;
Australia passed 1M completed tests;
Brazil had a slightly better day but still had 14,919 new cases; and
North America surpassed 100k deaths.

It would be interesting to look at the morality rates of the world at the moment and not worry about if it was CV19 or not.

That way the true effect can been seen, whether its suicide, CV19, aliments exaggerated by CV19 and plain old figure fudging.

A death is a death at the end of the day, so why play games just look at the difference year on year in total and you have a better picture.

Have been waiting for a mention of the beef export, barley bullying tactics that have been put on Au, if the US did the right thing they would open there borders to your beef, would solve your problem of getting shot of it and there lack of production due to covid sickness over there. Nz also getting threatened to over our Taiwan stance, time to move on from these people and there cheap wares.

Agree - I'm up for the trade war against China and willing to take a hit economically to rid ourselves of this terrible influence on our sovereignty.

Lucky we don't have you fellas running the country . I can't see any other country picking up the volume and at the PRICE that China has afforded. You think the US will pick up the pieces? There is more chance that they will be ready to sign up for barley and beef export deals with China. Watch this space.....

We could try south east asian countries, but they wont be paying the same price. India? Beef is not huge over there.

Take a hit you say? Try explaining that to the farmers or producers being impacted. Many will go broke and out of business, flow on impact to workers and their families. Or be forced to produce $1 per litre of milk for the Aussie market.

I'd rather have an empty wallet and my countries sovereignty - if our farmers so desperately want to be under the influence of the CCP then move their farming operation to China if they're desperate to be under China's rule.

Because frankly, I have zero interest in being under China's influence and who ever wants to break the relationship between Australia and China has my vote.

They can take their students and **** off
They can take their property investments and **** off
Their citizens can **** off too as far as I'm concerned.

The best relationship with China is no relationship, farmers have 25 million Australians to feed and after they've fed them there's another 5.5 billion humans on the planet if you exclude China.

History repeats - Victorians of the 1850s didn't like them during the gold rush and Victorians of the 2020s don't like them either.

Tell me one law or "way of life" that the CCP has influenced in this country. I can't think of any. Its all fake news. They don't give a hoots how we live. But I do think they are ****ed off because we are telling them how they should live.
Fine to say you'd rather have an empty wallet when its not your wallet being emptied at this moment.

Here you go bud, have a read of the links inside my earlier post.

Australia-Taiwan free trade agreement is one that China intervened in, there you go they stopped us from a trade agreement because it recognises Taiwan as a sovereign nation.

Feel free to read all of those links, might find some interesting reading there.

When you're done reading those links then check out this one:

Yes, I'm sure China are innocent bystanders and being persecuted by evil Western nations and only want to go about their daily lives in peace.

I aint gonna get into a debate about Taiwan or HK cos I don't know enough about it from either side. The world is split on whether those two should be recognised as being independent. The British handed HK back to China not long ago. Again, here WE are telling them how they should behave and what their policies should be.
Which countries do we currently have a economic or military relationship with that doesn't have a chequered past?
Anyhow, you've made your point clear
I am just glad I'm a Victorian right now. We have "chairman Dan" leading the way, and I do feel the BRI is going to help pull us out of a pickle. But that is just my view.

PS. Just to declare, my background is from an asian country that has historically despised China. I am no CCP sympathiser.
