Just an update on this The fault was actually a crack in the front right drive shaft splines apparently. My service invoice states: Coming from front driveshaft splines. R&R cleaned & applied, Loctite & allowed to cure. Retainer wheel BRG qty. 2 This was all fixed under warranty and my dealer said that ford was aware of the problem. it was fixed at Wayne Phillis Ford, Christies Beach in Adelaide - cant recommend these guys enough. Best service ever! |

Spec Level: LS LX Auto KMs at time of fault: Approx. 37, 00 Symtoms: Screeching/Whining noise Fault:?? Fixed? By: No one yet Comments: This noise seems to come from the front drivers side wheel or around that area, it started not long ago but is now alot more frequent, it doesn't seem to happen when I've got my foot on the excellerator but when I slow down for say traffic lights or even when i'm sitting in park idling it starts. I've taken it to a mechanic to have a look at but they couldn't find anything, they've ruled out a bearing noise and loose belts, is this a common thing? and does anyone have any ideas as this is starting to get on my nerves. Thanks |

Took it back to have it looked at and service dept agreed it was something bigger that was chewing through the tone wheels/sensors and CV joints. I now have a completely new hub and bearing assembly. That problem's fixed, for now. :1syellow1 However, after 2 CV joint replacements the knocking sound that can be heard when steering is at full lock and reversing is still occurring. Apparently the sound is coming from the gear box, and they need to have it in for 2-3 days to pull it apart and sus it out. Have yet to make that booking... |

I wouldn't worry mrbaxr6t, the LV XR5's are great.
Unlike the rest of the Focus range built in South Africa, the XR5's are made in Germany so they are a better build and finish. Check the XR5 forums for vehicle info and mods. http://www.fordxr5turbo.com/forum/index.php |

More people will see your question if you put it in a New Thread in the main body of the forum. This area is just a register of faults people have had and the result. Fredo

By: Not fixed - looking for more economical fix Comments: Just bought the car from a family in Illawong - they didnt mention this expensive problem and in the checking I seemed to miss this quite obvious fault (as did the mechanic who I paid $230 to find such expensive problems) If you know of a cheaper option please advise - having 120,000 km major service done $700 + fan belt $190 + brake flush $90 plus carbon head clean $40 plus puncture repair $45 the offered to replace my wipers for $60 but I decided to draw the line.... :ticking: |

Spec Level: LS LX KMs at time of fault: 46000 Symtoms: Clicking sound, mostly under acceleration/de-acceleration & bumps Fault: broken bottom engine mount Fixed? Finally got it fixed - $340 later. Clicking noise is still there, but not as frequent/loud as it was. Gotta go back next weekend and see whats up!

^^
So it appears it was incorrectly diagnosed by Denlo Subaru in Parramatta (whom the car was purchased with) Checked by a real mechanic who has said its something in the drive shaft, but I shouldn't be concerned. Will see if that is at least covered next time I get her serviced.

On Monday I took my 06 Focus (50,000km, owned for 5months) to an auto electrican (as Ford told me, that since it was out of warranty that I could not take it to them to be fixed). I found out that I am up for $1000 repair bill to get the fuel pump and sensor replaced. To make things worse, I tried to take it to them back in Feb (when the car still had warranty) and they told me to get it service and replace the battery. I complained again in March and got told that I was using the wrong fuel (I use BP Ultimate). I complained in April (out of warranty) and they told me that it could be the transmission (as it used to stall when changing gears) and to get it checked by a mechanic. I got it checked, and my mechanic said it was fine, and that there was no mechanical faults. So I complained in May, and they told me to see an auto eletrican, I was going to but I could afford the money to get it checked. So its now June, and I paying a repair bill I cant afford and Ford has told me that its my problem, even though they refused to see the car when it had warranty. NEVER GO TO CITY FORD!

Spec Level: LS LX Manual KMs at time of fault: Approx. 76,000 Fault: Bonnet release lock broken, Reverse Light switch in gearbox broken Fixed? Ongoing, Ford want $250 for the switch because its not covered under warranty (Even though it says gearbox and related components are, because its a switch, its not. *******!) So stuff that, I can get one for $40 off the net and put it in myself. Lock was fixed by Ford, same story however... Its a lock and therefore not covered. Useless ******. Also noticed that the plugs holding my floor mats on have failed, poor build quality there (or poor component design). Some quality ADR approved cable ties fixed that. Also the LCD on my stereo looks like someones pushed their thumb into it and broken the display - but apparently this is a factory option from South Efrica. Useless p.o.s, my 1976 datsun 180B had less foibles than this. |

Just to update mine, another niggly little fault, the screws that hold up my fuse box (under the passenger footwell) lost their thread... Probably due to the expert competence demonstrated by my local *cough Lynford Ford Osbourne Park cough cough** dealership. Had to search high and low through my box-o-screws to find some suitable replacements. /csb |

Spec level: LS LX manual hatch KMs at time of fault: 59000 Fault:only blowing hot air from vents Fixed by: wayne phillis reynella Comments: cable that connects to the thermostat control knob was kinked somehow and popped out. new cable fitted. covered by used car warranty. just for reference for others. it was only blowing hot air because thats the position it was in when the cable popped off. it could easily have popped off in any position i think. not sure how the cable connects on. maybe it can only pop off when right round in the hot position. |
