I guess that bloke I talked to in 2011 who knew people high up at Ford Aus was right. 2016 and Ford Australia Manufacturing is gone. I hoped he was wrong. :'(

whilst i do believe in the free market, it's a shame that the falcons are going. sure my falcon had problems (BA, first ford,.. actually first brand other than toyota.. i had become used to toyota reliability), i still liked the falcon and i thought i would buy the FG xr6 turbo when i finish uni and get a job i think the real culprit to ford losses is not the product itself but the service. i might still buy the fg xr6t. i hope there will still be lots of spares to go around since the fg has been out for a good number of years now. |

It's an incredibly sad day for the workers of Ford's manufacturing plants, who will now need to seek alternative employment in the years to come. My father has a toolmaking/manufacturing business and in years past did a LOT of work for Mitsu, Ford, Holden etc. That has largely gone offshore now, and over time, local cars have been built using more and more foreign sourced parts. You might say our 'true blue' Falcon/Commodore has become increasingly foreign without most people even knowing it.

Will there be a final freshen of the FG or do we go out with what we have now? Just timing my final Falcon purchase.

Very sad day and the rest to follow, as parts manufacturers go as well.

It is a drip fed fad car for idiot hipsters with little to no clue. Go order one - let me know when you'll see it. As for your other comment about all the Mazda 3s, Honda crap boxes etc: I'm 6 foot 8, 150KG with a 3 year old child. We like to travel around the state, tow a 18 footer tinny around from time to time..... Name a sedan other than the red and blue that will fit my needs. ????

Local parts manufacturers have been slowly drying up for many years now. This is just the final (big) nail.

Just heard on the Radio, what a sad day for everyone. Thoughts go out to those employed on the front line.
Its a sad day for Australia and shame on those that cant see it. Holden will quickly follow and as a country we will be taking a step backwards. Congratulations to the media and their constant stabbing of local manufacturing, whats next to sell stories? Also a big hand to those of you with your cheap and nasty imports and your Ivory tower attitude towards the Falcon and Commodore. They were safe, comfortable, easy to maintain and great value for money. Your Madza 3 is small, cramped, gutless, uninspiring to drive and not as economical as the Ecoboost.

I'm not surprised at all, the end was obvious path for Ford Australia.

Sad day, I have remained loyal to Ford for 20 years and they will no longer allow me to do this (unless I buy an import). Bye bye Ford, we had fun times but it's a shame you didn't put the effort in to stick around.

Definetly a bad day for the Blue Oval, but worse for workers and their families, can only imagine what this does for the region. I can remember when I got my FG when it was released and when I got the new SZ terry when it was released, strangers would keep asking me how they go. I still want a Blue Oval in the garage and preferably an Aussie built one to support the local market.

That should be plain to see? Many in your situation have flocked to dual cab 4wd utes or 4wd wagons.

Very sad, grew up with Aussie Falcons, cant get in thru my head they will now become an importer only :(
I seen it coming like everybody else and have my opinions on why it failed. For a final goodbye they should take the skirt off and make a 500kw HO monster. |

In my opinion, what killed the Falcon, was not keeping up with modern technology, they did it in America and Europe, why didn't they do it here ??? over priced, for specification, lack of advertising..even Hyundai have an ad at the Cinemas compariing the i30 with the Corolla..it will be interesting to see how the VF sells with more tech and a lower price..its a sad day, I have driven Falcons since the 70's, even a Fairlane...I drive a BF Mk 2 Ghia...RIP Falcon....

Poor product decisions, coupled with a strengthening dollar, cheaper overseas production, high quality imports becoming cheaper over time....it all spells doom sadly.

This is very prescient. It is one of the three reasons Ford as a manufacturer died. The other two are woeful marketing of a very good product and appalling after sales service from the dealers; responses of "they all do that" has cost them dearly. Today was the consequence of those actions.

I don't see many falcons or commodores being used for towing, actually don't see that many with a tow bar. Most have moved to a more versatile 4wd, dual cab ute or even a Territory sized SUV.

As much as I love the Falcon nameplate I would have hated it if it had become a FWD 4 cylinder econobox just to appease the masses.
Its a shame Ford couldn't find other viable vehicles to fill its place on the assembly line. |

I think it was probably more that they completely missed the shift to small/mid sized 4 cylinder cars (some of which incidently are now as large as 1990s commodores or falcons) or soft SUVs with more family flexibility.

I would not give up on the Falcon name plate yet, they used to have it in the USA and on my recent trips to the US, when you tell them you have 2003 falcon, they go WTF and WOW tell me more. I'm sure it would be received well again in the US.
It would not surprise me if the Falcon name plate was used again in the USA in the future, they have brought back the Escort name plate for Aisa.
