But then people are trying to sell XE ESP Fairmonth Ghias for $55k? they were under $20k brand new.

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...?Cr=63&sdmvc=1

When you process what other cars that can be bought for this money, just makes little sense.

These sellers hope that most of the responses above are wrong.....that us enthusiasts dont dispurse following the demise of the falcodore, otherwise their bubble will pop and they are left holding an old car. Thats the downsize of being an enthusiast, they try get us on emotion.
Dude, seriously... Buying an old X series falcon and spending some money on it its called a project,hobby,passion.. you don't have to spend thousands to be an enthusiast. Thats up to the individual, your posts are just going around in circles, you've written the thread topic ''Are we car enthusiasts being weeded out" your comments during the thread are confusing. Just because someone is advertising big $$$ for a car,as Potterybeige said its called fishing, you never know what someones willing to pay. If you know anything about the muscle or classic car scene you will realise its a special trade restoring old cars, it takes time money and alot of patients and only a true car lover will understand the joy of cruising the street in something that they've built, could be lowering and a set of mags to a full on rebuild, everyone's budget is different.

Maybe it comes down to what is actually being bought & why, but I thought emotion is what predominately powers our buying choices not logic.....

Thats where im lost how enthusiasts lose the ability to be rational and benchmark when it comes to older cars.

Im an enthusiast as much as anyone but ill never pay overs for an old falcodore. The demise of the falcodore is likely to promote this type of behaviour amongst enthusiasts. Some enthusiasts completely blinded not even considering what else can be bought for the same money.

but far worse is the opportunistic enthusiasts trying to cash in on others lack of judgement.
You just. Don't. Get. It.

If a person wants a XE, they will buy a XE. To use the music theory, a person isn't going to buy a justin Bieber single because a out of print metallica record is too expensive.

People like old cars, accept this fact.

Enthusiast and rational, now there’s two words you don’t often see in the same sentence.

I don't want an old Bentley. I'm not interested in them. I like XE ESPs. I'd take the XE over the Bentley for this very simple reason. It shouldn't be very difficult to understand..

Everything costs what people are prepared to pay. Is it wrong to sell your house for more than you paid for it?

Car enthusiasts are being weeded out more by legislation and running costs than the cessation of Aussie production. Didn't QLD police recently search everyone leaving an event? Cameras/road rules, etc

Gen Y might have had Gran Turismo and Fast & Furious, but Gen Z gets the MUSTANG to look forward to and dream about. Two kids on a game in a store today, it's a black with gold stripes 'Hertz' style stang they have chosen... My youngest says 'Dad, I won't be able to get a Mustang on P's as it's a V8...' to which I reply, no, there will be a turbo 4... There's also good Hot Hatches that mix fun and economy in a $2/L world.

Happy times & enthusiasts being catered for. The metal changes, that's all.

In reagrds to not seeing the sense in buying an old car, alot of people would say there's not much sense in an enthusiast buying a family taxi to use as a performance car.

Hulk, Not everyone likes or wants Bentley's regardless of what they're worth now or cost new. X series Falcons are worth what people are willing to pay for them.

I hope to always have a falcon or few in my shed as weekenders but will most likely move to euro sports cars either Bmw 1m or m3, c63 merc, maybe even volvo s60 or audi rs coupe.
might consider the mustang if they are decent power package and would definitely have a charger or challenger. My love for cars will never waiver and I will always be an enthusiast. I love japan its a lovely place but I will never be into their car scene.

Yeh thats for sure, like buying a new 4wd to actually go out bush, not much point really, its just an easy way to get the kids to school or get bogged on the beach. The clear coat cops a hammering from the gobbly bushes lol

we're still out there
ony the other day at work i was talking to a mate about his two boys, with one just getting his P's and they chipped in a couple of grand to what he had saved and got him a VX commonwhore (what he wanted)
i said what about the youngest, is he into cars
the reply was the young fella wants an xp!

then about 3 weeks previous we had a couple of lackies in at work to help restack some pallets of stuff for the day
pretty young guys looking all sheepish and scared so i started chatting with them as i darted out to get them more pallets to stack and helped them for half and hr
after asking them about school or uni or tafe and what music they listen to i hit them with the car questions
one of them wasnt interested in cars and just saw them as a way to get from a to b

the other lad perked right up pulled out his phone to show me the wall paper he had
P6 in cosmic blue him and his dad were doing up
it was his car and he loved it
the lad wouldnt of been even 20 yo
i mentioned this place and the wealth of info it has and people that have so much knowledge
hope fully he joined up and he keeps going on that p6 and never gives up

so, there is a few in the next generation that will have the attitude that some of us have towards cars, especially old skool
there will always be old skool kool....somewhere

My eleven year old daughter loves cars. Every time I'm dropping fluids or changing brakes she's right in next to me getting experience. Thinking of encouraging her to get an apprenticeship. If we had the space and finance there would be a project in the shed for us to work on together. Eldest boy not so much - he appreciates what cars are, and knows what he likes and doesn't, but it's more of an a-b thing with him. That's fine too. Would rather that than become some rabid fan-boy sprouting "ermagerd, dey terk er jerbs!!" on the internet

NOT TOO SHABBY FOR 40 YEARS ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
Let's face it, the Australian car enthusiast scene has been dying since the day Ford canned the Landau. It's just taken 40 years for people to realise!

Even in social circles, as you climb the corporate ladder you sort of have to hide your car enthusiast interests, dont wanna be seen as a yobbo.

Even though some of biggest car collections are owned by people high in the corporate chain? Even the best modified show cars in Australia are commissioned by big wigs...

Even Kochie has a mustang in the works...

Nah.
As you climb the corporate ladder your wallet gets fatter so your enthusiast nature is better catered for.
My bosses drive AMG C and E class and BMW M series. They are some of the biggest rev heads i know. They chuck $130,000 cars round tracks quite frequently.
There are many different levels of "enthusiast". Holden and Ford old and new just cater to the bottom feeders and bogans. Plenty other fast cars out there.

Fair point. As your wallet gets fatter your tastes change. A different type of enthusiast though. They wouldnt know what grade oil is in the car, nor would they be at the exhaust shop getting an exhaust fitted. They would never turn a spanner on the car.

They like fast cars but for only as long as the lease.

but you back up my point. Im a ford and holden enthusiast and in the corporate world there is a fair bit of brand snobbery, cant really say you like falcodores.
