However Australia's verdict will not be until 2022 on a normal timeline. I do have have to give kudos to Scomo for finally wedging the states by saying you can't have international visitors if you keep your state borders closed. And it makes perfect sense. Considering all the riots/protesting/marches with no spacial distancing, how can they complain about the Trump rallies re-commencing within 2 weeks?

Because after all we mostly vote with our wallets in our respective countries. If the economy is good we don't really care. That is gone out the window there and to a lesser extent the same is true here. To keep it more on topic, I'm hoping that we have hit the mark with the relaxation on restrictions. I'm hoping the protests don't set us back at all. Because it is a hard argument to see all that then have to lock down **** again. |

It might be luck but we have truly smashed the curve in Australia.
Here in Canberra we have setup a field hospital to cope with extra demand that has had 0 patients so far. Apparently it cost $23m which seems like a ****en lot to me but will give more capacity if and when another wave comes. |

5 new cases for Australia and no deaths so CMR drops to 1.399% and active cases drop to 405 (5.6%).
No new cases or deaths for NZ so CMR is unchanged and active cases remain at zero. The UK had just over 1.5k new cases and 202 deaths so the CMR is down to 14.120%. Just over 23k new cases in the USA yesterday and 904 deaths sees CMR down to 5.553% but active cases rise to 55.4%. Other notable points: Global new cases set a daily high of 133,933; Asia recorded a high for daily new cases with 39,329; Africa recorded a high for daily new cases with 7,462; The USA completes 23M tests, Russia 14M and Canada 2M; Ivory Coast (280), Israel (226), Ethiopia (245), Nepal (448), Bolivia (884), Oman (1,117), Argentina (1,391), Egypt (1,577), South Africa (3,359), Bangladesh (3,471), Saudi Arabia (3,921), Pakistan(6,397) and Chile (6,754) all recorded new daily highs, those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

A family member from the US sent me this. I'm not registered to the Washington Post so can't validate the content.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/healt...ebsite-states/ So based on the guidance below, it would appear that "short term" mass gatherings outdoors, such as protests that we've seen in Australia, is not as risky as being stuck indoors with a few hundred people screaming and carrying on...which is what is going to happen at those election campaigns. . Not sure how something like the MCG would be classified, where it is a bit of mix. We do know the Italy outbreak was kicked off from a football match in Bergamo where 40,000 attended. --------------- The US Government’s Centre for Disease Control (GCDC) has made official the emerging scientific evidence on Coronavirus Transmission Very low risk of transmission from surfaces. Very low risk from outdoor activities. Very high risk from gatherings in enclosed spaces like offices, religious places, cinema halls or theatres. These findings that have been emerging for a while need to be applied by people to manage the situation in the best manner possible. Time to reduce panic about surface transmission, and time to not be too eager to go back to office. ----------- WHAT IT TAKES TO INFECT To successfully infect you, the virus needs a dose of .... ~1000 viral particles (vp) The typical environmental spread of activities: - Breath: ~20 vp minute Speaking: ~200 vp minute Cough: ~200 million vp (enough of these may remain in air for hours in a poorly ventilated environment) Sneeze: ~200 million vp ---------- FORMULA Successful infection = Exposure to Virus Time SCENARIOS * Being in vicinity of someone (with 6 ft distancing) Low risk, if limit to less than 45 minutes * Talking to someone face to face (with mask): Low risk if limit to less than 4 minutes. * Someone passing you walking/jogging/cycling: Low risk * Well-ventilated spaces, with distancing: Low risk (limit duration) * Grocery shopping: Medium risk (can reduce to low by limiting time and following hygiene) * Indoor spaces: High risk * Public Bathrooms/Common areas: High fomite/surface transfer risk. * Restaurants: High risk (can reduce to Medium risk by sitting outdoors with distancing and surface touch awareness) * Workplaces/Schools (even with social distancing): Very high risk, including high fomite transfer risk. * Parties/Weddings: Very high risk. * Business networking/conferences: Very high risk. * Arenas/Concerts/Cinemas: Very high risk. ----------- RISK FACTORS The bottom line factors you can use to calculate your risk are... - indoors vs outdoors - narrow spaces vs large, ventilated spaces. - high people density vs low density - longer exposure vs brief exposure. The risks will be higher for former scenarios. ----------- |

Does Cav bring the girls ? Maybe we need a clearing thread for conspiracy theories and politics, as soon as someone puts something up it gets moved to the sewer where interested parties can type at each other (changing each other's mind's and solving the world's problems fur shur) and all the other threads can proceed as normal ? |

C19 making a comeback in China this time through Beijing. World needs to watch this very closely and not repeat the mistakes from early 2020.
And the lies from the CCP continue that China is not in the top 20 list. |

Of the 57 new cases, 36 are from Beijing, where a large wholesale food market at the centre of the outbreak has been closed and nearby housing estates put under lockdown. |

Probably people realizing they either don't have to sell now, or not getting enough interest.

Luckily for NZ we imported a couple of cases so we are not left off the covid count, not sure how these two slipped through, would have thought it was common sense to test every one crossing the boarder in recent times, let alone let them be released from two week isolation early without a test (one of there parents passed away). Still it shows how easy it is to drop the ball on this.

I see Victoria Police are being Victoria Police again - fine for Pizza shop in Essendon after having 21 people inside last week and yesterday Cherry Bar was also fined.
Unfortunately unable to provide links but was on ABC 24 yesterday. Typical - no fines for attendees of 40,000 strong protest but 21 people in a restaurant and fines dished out. I guess 'low hanging fruit' and all. |

Seems to me like the second wave is now on its way through China. Good chance that we'll have a second wave here too, with our loosening of restrictions.
Beijing shuts all schools, imposes partial travel ban to contain new 'severe' coronavirus outbreak The coronavirus resurgence, believed to have started in the capital's sprawling Xinfadi wholesale food market, has prompted alarm as China had largely brought its outbreak under control through mass testing and draconian lockdowns. The country had eased much of its anti-coronavirus measures in recent months as the government all but declared victory against the disease that emerged in the central city of Wuhan late last year. Fearing that progress could unravel, authorities locked down several residential areas and announced new restrictions on Tuesday, with group sports banned, people ordered to wear masks in crowded enclosed spaces, and inter-provincial group tours suspended. https://www.sbs.com.au/news/beijing-...virus-outbreak
