Depending on demand....... It does happen when the major's get held up on fuel delivery One will buy off the other and visa versa They are supposed to meet a min requirement for fuel and do monitor heavily. (we have all had the experience of "qualified", but SH** job before) (there are those who go beyond, and those that make do)..... The major fuel companies do try, and they are all monitored but there is passing and excelling. It used to be that the fuel carrier (transport contractor) would pick up from the distribution centre, add in a sachet of the appropriate companies fuel colour and voila ! Keep in mind, up until a few years ago : Both Shell and Caltex had refineries in NSW (now both closed) BP has one refinery in WA, Caltex one in Qld, Mobil and Shell/ new owners in Vic...... We use more than they produce, so generally nothing is sent interstate, the balance imported (from Singapore or elsewhere) there are other importers in the market now also, so generally speaking "your fuel can come from anywhere", its the additives and repeated checking the Major outlets do that does make a difference . Mistakes happen, I knew a bloke who got a Refinery Technicians job, he transferred 1,200,000lt of 98 octane into a 95 octane storage tank that was nearly empty by mistake, it couldn't be sold as 98, and wasn't worth re processing, so was sold as 95, even though it was more 97.7 octane !! Keep in mind also, that your local servo is generally a franchise, and mistakes (water from leeching/ rain/loose filler caps) do happen. We/I buy from either Caltex or Shell badged outlets, (not Woolworth's or any other, unless desperate).....

A bit of a drop to fuel prices. With the latest Iran deal it might get even cheaper.

With a barrel containing approx. 158 litres, it equates to approx. 32 cents a litre. Its quite clear these days that there is very little connection between the petrol price, and the oil price. If a barrel of oil was $1, you would be lucky to get petrol for under 80 cents a litre.

Melbourne back up to $149.9 for 91 unleaded. That's the same price when the unleaded wholesale price peaked at $112 a barrel. Its currently at about $99 a barrel. The AUD is about the same.

That is disgusting, I poured 95RON last night for $1.28/L. Saw the same servo selling it today for $1.57. Where the hell is the ACCC to take action against these arshats??? That's an almost 25% increase for 91RON in one hit you thieving mongrels!!!

I dont think that the wholesale price of oil has anything to do with what we get charged at the bowser. Oil could be 1c per barrel and our price per L of petrol would go up!
They are scamming f*cks. The ACCC wont do a damn thing because they are either getting money under the table or they consider it too much hard work. The thing that gets me is when the cheeky b*****ds put the price up the day before a long weekend and then dont drop the price til a week after it. |

Unleaded in Melbourne $122.7 but it is at the low end of the cycle. I wonder what price they pull out of their **** for the high end!

For 95 ron ... $ 1.31.5 caltex reservoir yesterday, and supposed to be another cent or two down on the weekend according to my servo bud, a nice change from 1.60+ a litre.

Partly due to the higher excises you guys have over there (and lower exchange rate), but you need to look at the overall tax that you pay. On a $100,000 income in Australia, we pay nearly $27,000 in taxes, but in NZ you pay $25,000 in taxes. I am sure your government wouldnt mind lowering your fuel taxes, if you agreed to pay more income tax.

With the stock market carnage crude has dropped below $40 per barrel for the first time since 2009.
Crisis?

I don't know what xmas is but it is hard to predict. There is more than just the price per barrel of oil which affects the price of petrol.

The thing that will drive petrol prices down the most will be less demand for the fuels in Asian countries. We probably see a bit in that now, with Diesel prices falling below ULP |

It is impossible to find a chart for Tapis prices. Even the Australian Institute of Petroleum does not have it. http://www.aip.com.au/pricing/facts/...uel_Market.htm

Something really needs to be done about petrol pricing in Australia.
I filled up this morning at 124.9cpl for 95, went to pay, walked back to the car and the price had gone up 27cpl!!! The oil cartels have the nation bent over a barrel and that needs to end. Everyone not buying any fuel for a few days would work in theory, in reality it will never work. So what the hell can we do to rectify this situation??? |
