Talking with friends at the moment, the great confusion seems to be, what does shutting down of "non-essential activity" actually mean?

Does it mean that if you run a business that deals with the general public "face-to-face", you must shut it down, even as a sole-trader, such as a tradie?

Or does it only mean restaurants, pubs, cafes, and general retail stores (not being supermarkets, service stations, etc)?

Exactly, I'm at the dentist tomorrow, are they open? Do I go to work on Tuesday?

Last night was even quieter than Friday night. Usual traffic jams along Kings Way and through Toorak Village were non existent.

They've told her if someone so much as sneezes in our household she must cease to come to work immediately.
We both have our Mothers and my Wife's Father living in close proximity to us, all are over the age of 70 and 2 with respiratory issues such as emphysema and asthma.
I work with children, our 19yr old works in fast food and encounters hundreds of people of whom she has no idea of where they've been or who they've been in contact with and the youngest two go to school, well, until the pull the plug.
Its not until you start to look at just how susceptible you are to encountering this thing that you realise how easy it can be and how devastating it could become and that's just for us, im sure its the same situation right around the country.
As a Family, we've decided to begin semi isolation as of 1.30pm today meaning that apart from our necessary duties of going to work or school we are refraining from any other outside contact where possible and have explained to our parents that we'll be limiting our contact with them to phone calls and other online options.
We'll have accumulated enough staples to last the next month with the exception of bread and milk which we will obtain late in the evenings to avoid the crowds.
We're not naïve enough to think its fool proof, but its what we can do to try and shoulder the load and although it was hard to get the kids on board, especially the 19yo, eventually we came to what we feel is the right decision for us.
I sincerely wish you and you're extended family and friends all the very best and hope that with sensible management and a bit of good fortune that we'll all come out the other side.

Peace

Apparently bottle shops will be shutting up shop. So if you need booze or vodka to make home-made hand sanitiser, now is the time....

Can someone confirm if Bunnings will be open through the VIC lockdown?

To me - I classify Bunnings as an 'Essential Service'.

Hopefully, Martinka! It's not like you can buy Sobranies at Colesworths.

I saw a news headline "Taxis being cleaned around the clock" and thought OK, that's not much - but still more than usual.

To be serious, contamination in cars:

I read that one lab test surface described as "plastic" has a rather strong ability to retain potency of the virus; after three days post-exposure there was still a measurably active component of the pathogen on/in the surface. Full methodology wasn't clear, whether the test pieces were hermetically sealed or accessible to free air movement.

As I have to borrow Povo Ute off my mate and then return it in a few days, I need to leave it free of elevated infection risk as the chemo is busy smashing his immunity to everything. Would the normal (benzalkonium chloride) kitchen surface cleaners be suitable for wiping down?

Reports from overseas suggest petrol/diesel pumps have been a super spreader of COVID-19. Please keep this in mind next time you're at the pump, and take precautions.
