GasO, I can't been bothered with raking and catchers, I just run over everything, branches, sticks, leaves on the highest setting. Just as well I don't own a cat or dog.

Well after a few decent frosts, I don't think much more "mowing" will be happening for a while now. Despite my lawn having taken on its shade of winter brown (couch) it's nice to see a bit of colour hanging about in the garden.

Same here, all my lawns have gone from fortnightly to monthly, all I’m mowing is winter weeds and autumn leaves.

Still busy though, I'm in the second year of a re-veg project on our old tip site. Taking heaps of pictures (damn picr.me is down today so may post some later) and compiling paper work for my cert in land management. We had sideways hail last week and that was still more appealing to me than sitting inside doing Tafe 'homework'

Im at a bit of a loss here. Last week my snipper was running like a champ. Id snip, shut it off then pick it up with my mower. Then my snipper stopped. It has spark, proven by the basic test of pull the plug and ground it to the block. It has fuel as it floods, and has air. Anyhow, venting my frustrations yeaterday to my brother, he mentions he has a snipper that his neighbor gave him as whilst it was new 2 years ago and running, he had no use for it. My brother has no grass either. Its a homelite. Its not good in the sence that they are good, but being the even cheaper version if ryobi which is what my annoyance is, parts are the same. So yes the fuel lines were rotted and i pulled out the lines from mine that are new. It has spark. The fuel mix is the same at 1 to 50. Most parts are the same. But no bueno. Doesnt run. My conspiracy theory now is the reed valve is shot. As in everything else plastic or rubber on both has failed, hence the wet plugs etc. Being a 2 stroke the intake enters into the crank case before the cylinder (proven when i had the carb off my 30cc). So is that a completely stupid theory?

Wait, shouldnt the reed valve be behind the carb so the exhaust exits out the opposite port deally? There is some form of non metallic fibrous material behind the intake manifold plastic thing. It does not block the intake, and i havent pulled it off so maybe thats the reed valve and maybe its stuffed as i can see straight into the crank case.

Spark, fuel ,compression =bang. Either a Carby issue or flodded/flooding.
As for reed valves, the only time I've! encountered those was on high performance 2 stroke motors,? |

For anyone with Foxtel and the History Channel, tonight’s episode of Aussie Inventions That Changed The World features the story of the Victa lawn mower.

Im just lost as to why my 30cc trimmer ran like a champ start after start, after many service items were fitted prior, then stopped when it was warm, only sitting for maybe 3 or 4 minutes. Yes its not an issue buying another, but where's the challenge? |

I have an Old Greenfield IPD Slasher in the country they are a self propelled mover that will go through just about anything. but they are a beast to handle
However the gearbox is shot they have brass bevel gears which are worn. last I checked a new Gearbox was about $600 and the Mower is not worth that much.. does anybody Know where I can get bevel gears replaced?

I worked out the issue. I didnt do the oil in my 5L jerry, a mate did using his bottle. So i saw him fill the measure full. 50:1 in 5L is 100ml of oil. The measure on the bottle goes past 100ml. The fuel had way too much oil in it. Explains why my 30cc stopped minutes after filling it up with the fresh fuel. So a splash of 98 in the tank of the 25cc i was given and it started. Hadnt been run in a few years but after being a bit rough for 20 odd seconds it smoothed out fine. Lesson learnt. Never let a 38 year old who has never even got his L plates in a car play with fuel.

The reason i used the 25cc homelite to experiment with the fuel mix is i had never seen it run and it was free, so if it blew up, i dont care. Yesterday with my hueys cooking adventures style splash of this, pinch of that fuel mix i only did a test section of edges. Not knowing the fuel mix in a 2 stroke can be risky to the motor. So today i put the little homelite to the test. Not to risk it i started it and let it warm up on the unknown mix whilst i put line on the spool. Then i topped the tank up with the over oiled fuel from the bum jerry. It ran fine but deffinately was burning more oil then it should be. Proper blue haze, but its probably better burning more oil then not enough. Worst case it would foul the plug. But it didnt. The tester was a few hundred metres of edges that werent that bad and it did well. Its light, a lot lighter then my 30cc, but it bogs a bit with the heavier stuff. Thats nothing bad, smaller motor with less power. The real test was the section beside the turning circle at my house. So i own a battle axe property. 55m driveway which is 2 concrete pads so 5 edges to edge and theres a turning circle at the top. Between the concrete of that and the fence between my block and the backyard of the house in front the small strip of grass is to thin to fit a mower. You cant see it off the street so neither the bloke who rents my granny flat or myself have done anything about that section for probably 18 months. The grass had grown over the concrete by quite a bit. In spots up to a meter. Thick runners too. Yeah, the 25cc bogged a bit at times but hacked through it. I picked up what i could with the mower and rake, but for the best part the dirt on the concrete was almost a garden bed. So i did the illegal and preassure washed the dirt away, to deter the grass.
So im still left with 1 problem. The 4L of bum mix in my pre mix tank. Im not an eco terrorist so i need to dispose of it somehow responsibly start again. Option 1 is simply work out the tank capacity on my snipper then work out the 1 to 50 and oil it every tank. That will work but it doesnt solve the issue of the bum jerry. Option 2 is wing it and be unscientific and add an unknown quantity of 98 to the bum jerry, but i really dont want to kill anything. And option 3 is more plausable, put a splash here and there in my 4 stroke mower when i fill it up with 98 just to burn it off, but i dont like that idea because my mower has never had any issues and i dont want to create any issues with it. |

I know quite a few Blokes who put a "splash" of two stroke oil in the tanks of their Old Pre-unleaded Cars as an upper cylinder Lubricant.. |

I thought about that. I need to fill up anyways, i guess 4L of pre mix wouldnt hurt a diesel. But its a work car.

Found something to mow today! Used this strip of grass to really test what the little Mastercut could handle.
This overgrown, wet nature was strip slashed down on the second lowest setting and whilst it bogged down a bit, the little bugger just grunted through it, no stalling! Not a pretty or tidy finish for this one but to me proved that in really tough stuff, 2-stroke power rules!

Smashed out even more loose ends with my un known but still overoiled fuel mix in the freebe snipper i have that i dont care if it blows up today. That was after coming to a happy medium finding a solution i was happy with after months of my refusal to fix hmy mums lights. The little 2 stroke with my unsceintific still over oiled mix is a little champ. Once i burn off the bum jerry and mix it properly, then i will get my 30cc going and my tenants 25cc back running. Killing the paid for ones to me doesnt sound like a great idea. So far the freebe being years newer but free has been running great, a bit smokey but its over oiled so the plug doesnt get wet and isnt overly carboned up. The $99 special (im guessing, it was gifted to my brother years ago) i was gifted, granted i did pull the new plug and fuel lines and filter, also the primer bulb from my was good 30cc, is a little ripper. Down on power compared to the 30 when it runs good (the 30 has had age related issues) but the thing rips. Last edited by .:4:.; 30-06-2019 at 06:27 PM. |

Yes poor mother nature indeed with two strokers. You can even see a bot of light blush smoke haze in those images above

With the bum mix in the little ripper, if i took a photo, it would probably have green peace blockade my driveway in protest. Once i rid that tank and mix it properly, things should be apples.

I walked into Mitre 10 on Friday last week to buy a third battery for my Makita stuff and walked out with that and a blower to go with it .. Yep , I swear I'd not keep doing this ...........
On Saturday morning I got the DUB 183Z out of the box and whacked a freshly charged battery on it ..I did half an hour between my place and at my neighbours on speed 2 and a bit of 3...Woh...Speed 3 caught me by surprise . Didn't charge it because it was showing 2 bar out of 4 bar on the indicator . I did about 15 minutes of walkways there and was still showing 2 after that . Came with the extended length and I'm so impressed . Even considering buying the vac attachment for it later on . This is a single battery unit and can only wonder how good this one is...Anybody tried them ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O80Pf0a-Xlw ... |
