How many FG sedans do you see down at the boat ramp? Zero...boaties roll in dual cabs or big 4wds these days. The days of the 'big aussie six' being the car of choice to tow the family Millard down to the caravan park are long gone.

Those of you angry at Ford... really? Its like being angry at the outcome of a game of russian roulette, it was always going to happen. |

Even with a world class product, no single model sells 80k+ per year anymore, and it could only survive if large numbers were also exported. Holden did OK in that regard, Ford failed.

I haven't been on here in years until recently waiting for the inevitable, its been really hard sitting on this news for so long. Sad day indeed but ultimately it was the right move.

But that said some of the comments in here have been laughable at best. People swearing to never buy another Ford, blaming the government, blaming the public for buying imports... A friend of mine has even suggested the Govt should kick a number of brands out of Australia in order to artificially increase demand for Falcon and Commodore.

This is how 99% of the public view car purchases. My daily drive is a 2005 WRX I purchased new. Please show me what local product options I had.

There always 1 know it all. Tell us again how Ford developed the F6X and it was a mistake.

Now the doomsdayers were right (with much 'I told you so's to come), the deniers look foolish (and will continue to deny its really happening)... and everyone's an expert as to why!
I'm gunna start saving for a 2016 Falcon - it'll be quite a historical car. The king is dead... long live the king.

While I'm shattered with the news of the Ford Aus shutting down production of locally built models I do believe in Ford Global success. If you were in FordAus shoes, why would you be spending so much to make a car that has such a very small market share in a country with 20something million people. You wouldn't. Ford is a company that goes out to make money, its not there to provide you with some form of romantic ideal of motoring. They make dollars.
I love the Ford Motor company, and if this is what needs to happen to ensure the company as a whole stays viable then so be it. Ill always have a Falcon, Ill always have Fords no matter where they are made its just a shame that we wont have such a car as the Falcon with what will be Australia greatest engine. The mighty 4 Litre. Now Im off to have a beer down the shed with the cars and celebrate the Falcon, its not time to mourn just yet.

Getting very annoyed with media today....constantly going on about assistance to Ford from Federal govt. So what! !!!
Supporting local content & products is the right of a sovereign country and the largely silent public expect that from their represenatives. Last edited by D Block; 23-05-2013 at 01:29 PM. Reason: Spelling |

Does Ford still have a 'serious performance' Territory? If not, the concept failed obviously.

Good... I don`t give a ****, I was proud to drive an Australian made Ford and now they can shove it. They want my business they can make it here. I won`t even consider an import Ford replacement. They have not only taken the Falcon ,They have taken our heritage that they abandoned over 30 years ago.

This is pretty sad for all the workers. I really like my FG, it's my first Ford. But when the time comes to buy another car, I'll see what's around that I like and suits my needs. It definitely won't be a Holden though.

I must be missing something here.
Is there some law that states we MUST product cars in Australia regardless of the cost? Perhaps we should prop up an artificial wool industry too. How about we manufacture steam trains? Industries come and go. Australia is now a service-based country and manufacturing has moved to other more viable countries. Instead of whinging that the party is over, how about being thankful that it was such a fantastic part of our history over the past 80 years or so? Deal with it.

Sorry for the employees. Cheered Falcons on when racing, owned 9 of them. Love the car and am thankful for the fun they have given me and will continue to give me. The XR8 will get a polish this weekend.

It's better to have someone think you're stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Disagree with me all you like, but comments like that are pathetic.

Will GM go with them?
Whats to happen to the spare part industry?(can see anyone doing up a Kia lol) V8 supercars without red or blue! wtf!! I blame Julia Gillard and her mob for wasting money when Australia needs to be more than a retirement/tourist/3rd world sanctuary nation. |

Not meaning to be sarcastic here or add salt to the wound - far from it - but what kinda quality do you honestly think these poor workers are likely to be screwing together over the next coupls of years...........quality and enthusiasm are likely to be last on the list for the next Falc..........hope I'm wrong.
