I think what killed that truck was plain old physics.
You put a looooong flexible load like that on an equally loooong trailer, drive it at speed over a typical crap country road like that, and it'll "bounce"...it might be only slight, but you can see it in a big load of similar pipe on a good bitumen highway if you get stuck behind such a truck. Eventually the occilations up and down will weaken something. If it's been used for doing that for a few years, eventually it's going to bend at the focus point...mainly being where that big limp of wood is placed underneath the load above where the bend is seen.

Yeah I went to school with people who seemed to think a 202 trimatic VK commodore would ice an E series falcon.
They didn't seem to understand what torque was so I never bothered trying to explain it.
That sort of conversation happened every day in my classes

Well it depends on what E-series we're talking about
If you're talking a 3.9CFI, then yes it probably would
but if we're talking a 4.0MPEFI, then no way in the world

I'm not so sure, even the old CFI pull away quicker than a 202 Trimatic, they wouldn't pull the skin off rice pudding. The RBwhatever in the VL would smoke the CFI though.

I think we should clarify what we mean by 202 trimatic
if you're talking a carby 202, i agree with you
but the black motor EFI VK's with 109kw were respectable performers, especially right off the line.

Mind you they're all old hat these days and a joke in comparison etc etc

Whoever posted the photo for the classified obviously don't drive a Ford or Holden - they probably drive a fuego
which by the way is an epic fail ......

Yep, reminds me of my school days. I remember a kid saying Holdens in V8SC need to use Ford 9" diffs to stop them from winning every single race.

I apologise for not clarifying. I was talking about 3.9CPI/4.0LMPI vs. 202 carby.
I really don't like 202s though, so I may be prejudice LOL.
I was told a stock, run of the mill carby fed 202 would beat an EBII XR6... not likely.

I see. Doesn't a stock ebii xr6 have pretty much double the power of a carby 202? I can tell you first hand that the only thing you can race in a carby 202 and win with is lame 4cyls, believe me i've got one!

My old carbie 202 with traumatic FLEW off the line..... one day when I accidently had it in neutral then went "oh it's not in drive".... *BANG! SCREECH!* ... aaanndd we're off!

That old VK kinda reminded me of the current holden heritage of 2 second lag between throttle application and actually going anywhere, as the carbie used to flood when you floored it, the engine sputtered about then suddenly you got a rush of torque as it sprang into life... very odd indeed.
