Well I started my weight loss on Australia Day ... and was 95kg at the start. I got down to 85kg quite quickly ... but decided to hang around that weight as i was comfortable with it.
it has been going up and down a bit (2kg here and there) ... I am now down to 82kg ... but that might go back up again ... it fluctuates around the 82-84kg mark now. If i lose anymore ... I'll need new clothes ... and rather not spend the cash on it. But as you can see by my post #356 on the 10/5/06 ... I am happier with my actual cholesterol level and current health compared to when i started ... things are well ... and i feel great.

My last post over a month ago indicated that I was 81kg. Over the past month not a lot has changed. I'm still ~81kg (up to 82, down to 81.5...). So hit a bit of a brick wall with my level of exercise. But i'm still happy with my results. I've started my partner on cycling (she hasn't touched a bike for almost 15 years).
As a reward for myself for cycling every day to work for nearly the past entire year, i've picked up an absolute deal of a new bike (well deal for some - some people might ask why i'd bother). So yesterday I put a $500 deposit on a pure carbon framed Scott CR1 Pro. It's ~$4000 RRP. I've got some events coming up, one being the 210km Around the Bay in a Day in October which will be about 8 hours. And then 2007 Audax Alpine Classic is about 200km of cycling in the Victorian highlands. ATB is an event of endurance of the butt, but the Alpine Classic is a real complete physical endurance event. So i'm going to aim to nail another 4kg off my body for about 2 weeks before the event, and then eat pasta for a week before with minimal cycling. Hmmm this is becoming borderline obsession

Well It has been 3 months since my last posting and in that time i have lost a total of 14kg, apart from the weight loss i am now 12cm smaller around my waist, so all in all a good result so far. : Just taken up a Body pump class, so once i have got the hang of that class it should certainly help increase those figures. |

i always hovered around 72kgish.. 5ft11.. smoked from the age of 16 to 22.. when i quit i instantly put on weight as i started eating to make up for the smoking, BOY did i eat. got up to 106kg!! (you woudn't think i was that much by looking at me, sure i was a little tubby, but didn't look 106kg). Since then i just focussed on eating better, doing a bit of exercise. I don't drink soft drink at all, don't drink alcohol at all, (both were previously quite active hobbies for me) and i eat better food, more fresh meat, fish, fresh vegies and only ever have wholemeal bread. Gluten is a killer for me so i stay away from that too.
Don't eat Pizza, Lasagne, most types of pasta, don't have milkshakes... basically i eat relatively boring things now, but you can still make some pretty tasty stuff, and have the odd treat. I'm now back to 70kg, which is a bit under what i'd want to be at, but i feel relatively good. Not sure if this helps anyone, but here it is anyway. |

i did a crash diet where i'd only eat a few slices of bread a day and heaps of water.. and occasional meat ... that didn't go too well .. after a month i was about 85kg down from 100kg i did also about 3-4 laps of my block during the "diet". .. than the weight just piled on and i'm back up to about 100kg again .. i am just starting now to slowly eat the right food and not make the mistake like last time

Yeah thats the norm with crash deits....they dont work long term, The human body is designed to store fat and starving the body of food only makes matters, they key is to up the metabolism by eating at least 5 small healthy meals during the day and backing off the carbs after 3pm in the arvo...

With Vino302 on this one ... also i really don't eat bread that much anymore ... it's one thing that can increase your weight as well. I have backed off my diet a bit ... so I am not losing anymore ... I am sitting happily at 85kg ... but still retaining a healthy diet though.

I'm down 12kg, still another 8kg to go.
I've already dropped 2 clothing sizes, starting to get annoying though, as I don't really want to get new clothes until I get to my target weight.

i only weigh 60kgs.. really need to bulk up more!
im gonna be so screwed when my metabolism slows down in a few years. its amazingly fast at the moment and as a result i can eat stupid amounts of food and not get fat i'd like to keep it that way so im going on a healthy diet from now on.. cut out the crap and get more fibre and protein into my diet also, for anyone with high cholesterol, eating eggs wont affect it, and they're a great source of protein. Well today I was very fortunate to sit down and have some intense conversation with Mario Fenech the fellow from tv. Such a nice and genuine bloke.I was working on his car there and we got to talking..He gave me some great tips on weight loss and getting fitter ,particularly after my illness. Thanks Mario you are a true champ and have given me some awesome insights into self improvement.
As a result I am getting off my butt and have made a commitment of 7 kg weight loss in the next 8 weeks. I am starting tonight. I did go back to kung fu only to cop a fractured rib so I gave it up.

I have only skim read this thread (it is long!!!) but wanted to just quickly note my experience.
Im female, 19, 158cm tall and at the beginning of February i weighed (argg i cringe at saying this...) 90kg. Thing that made me go see my doctor was that the weight had continued to pile on even though I ate fairly healthy and exercised 4-5 times a week. My menstrual cycle (sorry guys...) had never really been regular since it started, but had got worse and worse and I could go for 4 months easily without a period. I was fatigued, a b*tch for most of the time and the hair on my head was falling out. After some time and many $$$ in specialists later i was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. A low-gi diet, another exercise session a week and medication to help hormones and 'inability to control your moods(ie b*tch)' and now I am 73kg, so far 17kg. I still have a bit more to lose and the loss is no longer as dramatic week-to-week but i am feeling great. My hair is better (yay!!! it looks okish in my profile pic if you look, that is about 1.5 months old...) my moods are MUCH better, im told, i have more energy and although i havent fully recovered my self-esteem, its getting there. So anyway, thats the first time i have really fully shared that outside my family and friends, but i really just want to get the message out about PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) because although many people link it with infertility there are other implications. Im glad i found out about it at 19, though i cant help but wish i found out about it before i started gaining the weight and losing confidence because i was fat and nothing i did really made any difference. It is a fairly common problem, but underdiagnosed. Stick to it, "do it for yourself and your health". I kinda went off topic, sorry! Jennifer

Your experience sounds VERY similar to mine.
It's amazing once you find out what's causing the problem how easy it is to change things. I was told I had PCOS at 16, but none of the doctors told me what it involved or what else it did to me. I found out by accident when my Dad was diagnosed diabetic. Bought him a Low GI book with recipes, and read some of it before deciding to give it a go myself. I'm just over halfway to my goal weight.

Wow a weight loss thread on a car forum, LOL, who would have thought.
I was as big as 132kg (179cm) a couple of years ago and am settled around 85kg now with lots more muscle than I ever had when I was 132kg. Got down as low as 77kg but with the size I have that was pretty much unsustainable without 45 mins fairly intense cardio per day. Still have to watch what I do though as that fatty inside me is always waiting to bust out, if I eat too much of something I shouldn't I HAVE to go and pay for it in the gym, just something you have to do not to become a fatty again. But I am determined to never go back there. Edit - Just thought I would add how I lost all that pudding. No diet plan or exercise plan to speak of. Just eat a lot less and definitely restrict carbs while hitting the gym pretty hard. Is not rocket science, less food in but with more energy expended = weight loss. I really find the elliptical style machines are great for burning calories but I do a bit of everything. I try to mix it up, would go pretty hard on one thing for a month, like one month I did between 2 and 4km in the pool every day without stopping, then went in the gym the next month on the elliptical/ski machine etc. Then when I had lost most of my size I started hitting the weights, HARD. And no rest between sets etc. so I can do weights while at the same time getting cardio workout. I can lift heavy and average over 140 beats per minute for 45 minutes if not mucking about. A good workout out on the elliptical will see average up around 165 beats per min for 45 minutes. Resting rate is now down to around 50. Get a heart rate monitor watch, the Polar F11 is quite good, and it is a great motivator. Helps prevent you from being slack. Trev

I haven't read the entire thread so if this has already been mentioned I apologise.
I recently got onto a site called www.calorieking.com.au You pay a small fee to join but the best thing is the calorie calculator. You enter your food in each day and it measures the calories, protein, fat etc. Pretty handy if you're trying to watch yourself. I've personally found it useful.

i just skimmed through this thread. i went on the tony fergusson diet about 2months ago. its the one you get from terry white chemists. i'm 185cm and weighed 117 when i started. i lost 6kgs in the first week now i'm down to 103. you have 2 meal replacement shakes a day, no bread, pasta or rice your supposed to drink 2litres of water a day eat a palm sized portion of meat, chicken or fish and 3 cups of vegies a day. it works well but now when i have the shakes i get bad stomach aches within 10 minutes. i dont think its something the body likes for too long. so i've gone off it today still another 10kgs to lose if i stay off the junk food it should work. those shakes cost around $65-$70 a week.
