If you can get the range to be similar and the torque similar I agree. The cost of diesel sadly like all fuel prices has no relationship between R&D, production and distribution to it's retail price...desk-bound commodity traders see to that.

Surely PHEV Ranger is going to be Ecoboost, if this is the case it'll match diesel torque or exceed.

The only diesel hybrid I've seen is a Hino light truck.

Frankly i never really looked...the US Ranger 2.3L I4 Ecoboost has about 200kw/420Nm a PHEV version of combined 250kW+/600Nm should be child's play....what do you think?

Only issue is cost. If it's anything like Escape PHEV, it could be 10k more expensive. The 10k mark seems around the mark what most manufacturers are charging as a price difference for PHEV versions. 10k buys a lot of fuel.

Today's environment probably means nothing needs to be sold at cost or below cost such is the supply situation we have lived in for the last 3 years.
I don't understand why Ford doesn't chase every possible sale. The actual purchase transaction might not generate the sales profit of a Wildtrak or XLT but the dealer network has to service these vehicles, the customer starts a new relationship with Ford which has the potential for the next sale being a higher spec model, Ford gets the cache of best-selling vehicle in the market which you cannot buy through the same spend in marketing, marketing costs more...
When you have a factory running at full capacity, and still have very long waiting lists, then you simply are not going to get loss leaders. They have base models Rangers for whoever wants one.

Pretty sure there are some Lincoln models that already use a 2.3 Hybrid, so that could probably tell you what it would make. Nautilus?

Probably fresh off the boat and parked waiting for pre-delivery. Or customer pick up.

That's probably a bit of an understatement if it's twin motor ( it would have to be) if it was 100kw rear and 85-100 front that's potentially 400kw at least with instant acceleration.....no delays it would be a rocket ship

But as boss says price is the key my Outlander is 16k more than the ice version...the numbers don't really stack up

hybrid won't be twin motor or anything like that. It needs to fit into the current architecture.

Going for fuel efficiency not sure how much it will affect towing

Its going to weigh more so the more it weighs the less it will be able to tow because it effects its GCM and payload.

Unless they do a Toyota and change the class of vehicle to avoid regulatory dramas

The boss of Mitsubishi marketing has said there will be no Triton PHEV in 2023 in NZ looks like 2024

“Powerboost” normally have a drive motor replacing the torque converter.
The 3.0 EB hybrid in Explorer has a combined 595 hp which would make
a wicked Raptor Plus option. And that’s before we discuss a 2.3 EB Hybrid
in Ranger or Everest.

So what are they suggesting they'll use ....if it's a single motor it's going to struggle as a ute for towing etc it just seems a bit premature to think that it could be developed so quickly compared to the other two established manufacturers ( I won't mention their names because no ones interested and their junk ) lol , when they're saying at least 2024 ?

Ford have a number of hybrid powertrains to choose from. It's not going to take long times to develop. Makes it easy if it's a 2.3, cause the 2.3 is already fitted to Ranger and available in other markets, and the Amarok will have it here.

These things get designed in from the get go, years ago, so if they decide to do it the provision for it has already been accounted for. They don't just go well the new Ranger is here, now let's just throw a hybrid powertrain in it. They have already mentioned it was designed from the start to take ICE, hybrid, plug in hybrid and EV. I believe it was part of the reason the chassis was extended 50mm.

Ford have been doing hybrids since 2005, they have nearly 2 decades experience in them.

Yes it would go well.....but you probably couldn't class it as a real hybrid if it has the electric motor of the F150 it's only 35kw ? ,if you compare that to the Camry at 88kw it sounds like it doesn't even have enough electric power to drive it at highway speeds

It's just a mild hybrid , there would be savings around town in traffic but Franco's target of 10l/100km could be under threat?

It's best you stop speculating about how it will work, cause it's just making you look a bit silly. You have no idea what it will be.

Thanks for your concern, but I'm quite comfortable looking silly as how else will you learn I guess il just have to wait for you to enlighten me ....because the more I look into Fords hybrid development the more I wish I hadn't

I hope they have new tech on the horizon.....
