Its funny people actually work on your car after you tell them you know it hasn't moved.

Purchased some new front shocks, bloody Ford changing shock design at the end of the BF run, lucky I found out before I purchased them that from Aug 07 to Apr 08 they changed the design.

It is also lucky that the new springs I got were the right ones, thank god the supplier was on the ball and new the changes, he suggested the change was a cost saving one as the new design was a off the shelf item which ended up being a couple of dollars cheaper per unit.

Also used my 20c fuel voucher and saved $15.

10.8 litres/100klm around the burbs.

Also as I am a sucker for commercialism I got a GRIPGO, my phone fell off it on the way home after buying it......

Saved the engine!

My son noticed a big trail of oil along the driveway last night so out we go and have a look. Big puddle under the engine on the concrete.

I have a donkey light and an oil pressure gauge coming out the side of the block with adaptors and the adaptor going into the block had split!

Started pulling it all out this morning and it snapped in the block.

Ezi out to the rescue, dump the gauge temporarily and just use the donkey light till I can set it up differently.

How much oil left?

1 litre!!!!!!!!!!!!

I paid a shop, "South West Automatic Transmissions" in Liverpool, $350 which I thought was reasonable as a Ford service centre wanted $500ish.

I was surprised how much oil is in the converter itself, around 8ish litres I believe, so if you only change the 4 litres of oil in the tray it only gets approximately 1/3 of the oil changed.

On topic, my front shocks arrived today and they are booked in for installation with the new SL springs and a wheel alignment tomorrow.

Finally finished the suspension on the taxi, Whiteline sway bars, 30mm front on hardest settings, 27mm rear on hardest settings, new shocks and springs, Kings SL front and SSL rear.

Hub to guard is 340mm at both ends, 105mm ground clearance on the lowest bit which is the exhaust.

Alignment at front, toe +0.9, camber -1.5, castor +7.5
Alignment at rear, toe +1.0, camber -1.0.

It is chalk and cheese how it handles now (well for a taxi anyway), excellent turn in, no understeer to really mention and with a nice controllable oversteer when pushed (traction control off).

No more sledging and body rolling through corners for me.

Happy days.

Added some fairlane woodgrain and chrome to the doors (fairlane door cars were too ratty) and ghia console button surround.

Also added my motorcraft numberplate cover on the back from my old fairlane.

Not much, but its the little things that make it yours

There's a very straight EL Saphire wagon at a wreckers just round the corner from me and for a couple of weekends, I've been visiting it and getting little bits off it for my wagon. Well I was there today and got all the door seals off it (I've been chasing a wind noise problem around the passenger front door) but what I am happy about getting - Instrument Cluster, Trip Computer and Climate Control switches from an EF Ghia - total cost $80.00.

I think I've got all the bits now to do the Climate control conversion - just need to find an EF Fairmont wagon so I can get the looms. Then I can do CC and rear power windows all at once.
